Po's stamp on upper corner of first page and bottom of book. No other marks, clean. B&W photos of villagers. Map of Taiwan on back end papers. This is the amazing story of Lillian Dickson, a small, human dynamo of a woman who is achieving astounding results from her work among the natives of the mysterious island of Formosa. Upon arrival in 1927 she found that leprosy, headhunting, tuberculosis, the selling of little girls into prostitution and government corruption were all being taken for granted. She looked at the sea of suffering and said, "I'm going to take out my bucketfull".

Aventine Press 1931 VG/none. Blue hard boards with gold title to spine. Spine of book has some spotting. Corners and edges slightly bumped. Clean, binding a little on the loose side. No marks, no stickers, etc.Author Herman Melville sailed on the first day of January 1941 (his birthday) in a whaling vesell "Acushnet" the "Dolly" of this book. A part of his voyage, which was to last 4 years was recorded in his first book - this one - TYPEE in 1846. Also in "OMOO" i 1847 and later in "Moby Dick" , 1851.
