A brief "life & works" of Claude Bernard with a charming portrait (not in the Wellcome Portraits). Published in the series"Les Contemporains, 13e annee, no. 661, 11 juin 1905. Including a list of Bernard's printed works and secondary literature about him.

Neatly uniformly bound in recent half ,brown grained, morocco, spine gilt lettered and numbered on black morroco labels, marbled boards, uncut. ¶ A classic of French medical biography. "The most exhaustive and accurate bibliographies of the great physicians of the past are to be found in the 'Biographie Médicale' of Jourdan"(Garrison). The bio-bibliographical sketches in this work are generally longer than those in Hirsch. An intriguing question: why did the learned Jourdan spelled "Dictionaire" with a single 'n' and not with a double 'n' as the common French orthography (on all 7 title-pages)? --(Some scattered foxing and/or light browing).

Preserved in modern blind wrappers. ¶ Very rare and an important source. About 4500 brief biographies, arranged by "departement", of those who were responsable for the health care during the French Revolution, the most influential event in European history between 1500 and 1900.-- (Some scattered foxing and light staining).

A very valuable work of reference with ample bibliographical data. Of all the great French medical bio-bibliographies (like Jourdan, Bayle-Thillaye) the Dezeimeris is the rarest--(Partly slightly foxed and/or browned).

The last 10 pages are an almost complete list of Jergersma's publications 1886-1939.

With 23 plates in the text. ¶ Fouchard, the "father of modern dentistry" will be best remebered for his "Le chirurgien dentiste" (1728), the first complete scientific description of dentistry.

Contemporary half cloth, spine gilt lettered (spine faded, top & bottom sligthly worn for about 2 cm.; corners slightly bumped, but a overall very good copy). With a fine portrait in heliogravure by Dujardin. The standard work on this great French surgeon and his time, who was the first to recognize the process of metastasis, described for the first time invasion of veins by cancer. In 1825 he introduced vagical hysterectomy in France.
