De Stijl was a Dutch artistic avant-garde mouvement, founded in 1917 by Theo van Doeburg. The other pricipal members were Piet Mondriaan. Vilmos Huzár, Bart van de Leck, Gerrit Rietveld, Robert van 't Hoff and J.J.P. Oud. The artistic philosophy is known as "neoplasticism".

No one ever again would be able to bring together such a splendid collection. In the spring of 1911, the parts II & III of this librray were auctioned, comprising mauscripts, autographs and non-medical precious books.

The entire collection was sold to the Univeristy Library Nijmegen for - that time - the enormous amount of 100.000,-- Dutch Guilders.
