With 1 frontispiece and 1 plate. ** Jan Yperman, a pupil of Lanfranc, became the first and great authority on surgery in the Low Countries during the 14th century. Yperman was amongst the first who wrote a medical account in vernacular. The codex was discovered by J.F. Willems in 1836 (in the rich library of Charles van Hulthem). Garrison & Morton 5555.

With one hand coloured plate (coat-of-arm), and 324, chiefly large and fine engravings in the text. ¶ A lavishly illustrated (by M. de Ruaz) standard work on the development and history of the rupture truss from the earliest tiemes to the end of the 19th century. The contributions and inventions of all the great surgeons of the past are discussed at length. The authors themselves were the leading manufacturers of orthopaedic material of their time and renowned for their outstanding trusses.

The work is both revolutionary and innovative (given the date of publication). The first 70 pages being the first part of this work dealing with esthetical conception of the mamma through the history as well as judiciary aspects regarding mamma reconstruction. The remaining 3 parts deal with the physio-anatomico and surgical aspects.
