Old tide lines upper corners of final few pages. Upper board fore-edge protrudes farther than lower board fore-edge, as in an overbite. Poets include Victor Hugo and Chateaubriand among many others.

The Contents page in Volume I was opened a little hurriedly, resulting in a short outer-marginal tear with no loss (see photo for our best attempt at a close-up). Previous owner has written a date & city in a neat hand on the rear pastedown of the first volume. Each volume also contains a small bookseller ticket at bottom of rear pastedown. Top edges gilt. Spines uniformly sunned, else very good copies of these popular turn-of-the-century travel guides in publisher's olive cloth with upper board gilt lettering & elaborate design within single-ruled gilt border.

First printing, so stated, tall octavo, pp. 230. Illustrations; maps. Very good in the publisher's stiff photographic French-style wrappers.

Very Good with some areas of light smudging on rear panel.
