Nineteenth-century woman-owned "business" in Maine. Removed from a bound volume, octavo, pp. 2, [2]. "AN ACT granting Susan S. B. Spring the right to maintain a dam at its present height at or near the lower narrows, so called, at West Harpswell, in the town of Harpswell, for the purpose of retaining so much of the tide water as is necessary for the culture of fish." Two stab holes from binding near spine. A short tear throughout at mid fore-edge with no loss. Otherwise, just light wear and toning. Withal, about GOOD and ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve with white cardstock backing board.

Brown cloth, octavo, ruled in blind, spine lettering gilt. Black and white illustrations. Smith and Reid Book Binders of Augusta Maine stamp on free front endpaper near bottom edge. Contains Agricultural Report; Dairy Report; Practical Road Improvement; Chemistry of Meats; Experiments with Milch Cows; Orchard Report; Notes on Insects; Notes on Winter Gardening; Pomological Report; more. GOOD with some shelf scuffing and rubbing to the cloth. A few shallow old tide lines (a splash of coffee?) at bottom edge of rear free endpaper and rear pastedown.

Publisher's original stapled gray wrappers, octavo, pp. 48. Frontispiece portrait and 5 other black and white illustrations as called for, including woodblock on pamphlet's rear. Publisher's leaflet laid in. FAIR-only with areas of sunning and abrasion on the front panel and soiling akin to shelf-slide on rear panel. The wrappers around the staples have worn through. A one-inch tear with no loss, front panel top-edge downward near spine, that could be mended with a piece of tape quite easily by a steadier hand than we possess. Book is protected now in a clear Ultra-Pro sleeve. A scarce item, both in trade and institutional holdings, with a 2024 OCLC search returning Harvard and RISD only.

Publisher's gilt lettered and decorated black cloth spine over pale green boards with upper board lettering gilt, octavo, pp. 83. Fore-edge and bottom-edge untrimmed. Author was founder of Voices, a well-regarded Poetry magazine.

Publisher's original glossy color wrappers. Illustrated in color throughout. Printed nicely in Italy.

Pamphlet, octavo, pp. 52. Includes "Money [that] may be expended for schools taught by females" (Article II, Secion 16); Penalties for "interrupting or disturbing schools by rude or indecent behavior" or "throwing missiles at the school house" (Article X, Section 13). Light wear, as with age and consultation, and a couple of nicks on wrapper perimeter, but GOOD and sound, if somewhat delicate, in the publisher's printed and decorated wrappers. Ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve with white cardstock backing board. Wonderfully designed and executed by a talented Maine printer in the days when type bit gloriously into the paper.

Hardcover, octavo, pp. 97. Illustrated with 6 color paintings; 27 black & white water colors; and endpaper maps. Very good in the publisher's beige cloth with blue upper panel lighthouse vignette and an attractive gilt & blue spine lettering arrangement. Good only dust jacket just a little weary from pre-mylar days, with light chipping at fold points & a sun-related discoloration at middle of the rear panel. Jacket now protected in a sheet of archival mylar.

First edition, octavo, pp. vi, 255. Top edge gilt. Tissue-guarded frontis of the author. Several leaves opened at bottom edge by an inexperienced hand, resulting in nicks & short tears. Light toning to endpapers. Withal, Good and sound in the publisher's tan boards with red spine and upper board lettering.
