Removed from Herring & Longacre, National Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Americans, Volume 1. An 8-page biography of Jackson removed from the National Portrait Gallery volume and rebound separately in a variegated maroon leatherette with Jackson's name in gilt on front and the engraving of Jackson from the large volume tipped in on a clean new endpaper. The slim resultant volume measures 11 by 7 inches. Condition is GOOD with foxing on the portrait and in the margins of the original leaves. Publisher's blue cloth with black spine lettering, octavo, pp. 315. GOOD condition, with mild shelf rubbing on lower edges and foxing on top edge. A few faint thin streaks of blue on the fore-edge, likely from rubbing against another copy in publisher's original packing process (Please see image for our best attempt at a close-up). Dust jacket Good-only with random shelf rubs and some shelf wear at spine ends, all prior to the new protective sheet of Brodart we have provided.

Hardcover, octavo, pp. xi, 91. A few illustrations. Inscription from the author to previous owner on the free front end-paper. Publisher's maroon cloth with spine and upper board lettering gilt. The maroon color has not held fast to the cloth over the decades, leaving it blotched/mottled in appearance, thus FAIR-only in a faded, rubbed, and nicked FAIR-only dust jacket. Jacket now ensconced in a clear protective sleeve of archival Brodart.

Stiff illustrated stapled wraps, octavo, pp. 38. Illustrations. This copy replete with the fold-out map and the multi-panel fold-out genealogical chart. Previous owner gift inscription in a neat hand on the title page, and two sentences are underlined on page 9. Two old sticker shadows on upper wrap. A few short stray marks on lower wrap. GOOD and sound with just light shelf wear. Ensconced in a clear protective display sleeve.

Nick with no loss at bottom edge of front panel (see photo 2 for our best attempt at a close-up), else Very Good and clean. Safely stowed in a clear new Ultra-Pro display sleeve. Edition limited to 300 copies, quarto, pp. vi, 35. Very Good in the publisher's gilt-stamped cloth backed boards in unprinted brown paper dust jacket with a neat one inch vertical tear with no loss at top edge of rear panel. Jacket ensconced now in a new sheet of archival mylar. Reprint of the Charleston edition (1854) of the only surviving copy of one of the earliest Southern sales catalogues.

Small spot of discoloration at bottom edge of front panel (see Photo 2), otherwise Very Good in the publisher's stiff pale blue wrappers. Author was professor of Philosophy and Religion at Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina.

Publisher's original card-stock wrappers, octavo, pp. 82. Illustrations by Bruce Sayre. The book was dedicated by the authors to former Wofford College Dean of Students Frank Logan upon the occasion of his retirement. On the Dedication page, Logan has INSCRIBED this copy warmly as an "old friend." Logan's business card from Wofford, as Dean of Students Emeritus, is laid in but was once attached by a paper clip, leaving paper clip shadows at top edges of several preliminary leaves. GOOD condition with just mild shelf wear. Dean Logan served Wofford for 33 years, holding various positions in admissions and student affairs, sometimes simultaneously. He retired in 1980 and died in 1995.

Wraps, octavo, pp. 120. Illustrated with food-related chapter-head vignettes. Just light shelf wear. Very good in the publisher's illustrated stapled cardstock wrappers. Scarce in trade and in institutional holdings, with a January 2019 OCLC search locating one copy only at Beaufort County Public Library, SC.
