Buenos Aires, Argentina: Krayd Galería de Arte, 1955. Complete suite of 18 (9 color and 9 black and white) original lithographs by nine 20th century Argentinian modern artists: Leopoldo Torres (1924-1995), Miguel Ocampo (1922-2015), Libero Badii (1916-2001), Antonio Fernández-Muro (1920-2014), Sarah Grilo (1920-2017), Alfredo Hlito (1923-1993), José María Lanús (1922-), Leopoldo Presas (1915-2009), and Ideal Sánchez (1916-1998). Each lithograph is 19 inches by 14 inches and is numbered 326/500 in pencil; some are signed in the plate, but none are pencil-signed. Accompanying the prints is a folder that includes brief biographies of the artists and titles of each of the 2 lithos by each. All are housed in the original paper portfolio. All of the lithographs are clean and bright without any creasing. There is just a hint of toning of the paper, and some prints have very minimal edgewear. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Unpublished, 1898. 6 1/8" by 9 1/16" mounted on 8 " by 10" mounting board. Winfield Scott Bell (1852-?) was a founding member of the Pittsburgh Amateur Photographers' Society in 1885. Through the society he became acquainted with John W. Beatty, the first Art Director at the Carnegie Institute. Beatty was a prolific (if somewhat ordinary) painter, who was proud of his art. This photograph of one of his paintings comes from the Beatty family estate--as does a Clarence H. White platinum print portrait of Beatty that is also offered today. Printed as a photogravure by the Photochrome Engraving Company, a company that Alfred Stieglitz had founded. Image size is 5 3/4 inches by 4 5/8 inches. Joseph T. Keiley (1860-1914) was a New York lawyer and amateur photographer who became one of the most significant members of the photo-secessionist movement. The soft-focus image of the "Arabian Nobleman" was one of three Keiley photogravures selected for inclusion in the February 1903 issue of Camera Notes. The photogravure is in excellent condition: a superb impression that is in virtually as-new condition. New York: Robert M. McBride & Company, 1937. Special Missouri Edition of the first edition that is SIGNED on the colophon page by Benton, the important American artist who was at the forefront of the Regionalist movement. Surrounding the signature and colophon is an original elaborate humorous drawing by Benton, signed twice--once as "Tom" and again as "Tom Collins" (in reference to the drink in his hand in the drawing). Benton inscribed the book and drawing to Roy Snyder, whose signature appears beneath his own image in the drawing. Laid in is a rough sketch of the Snyder farm on which Roy Snyder wrote "drawn by Tom Benton at our house, 1949." The book is in very good+ condition: clean and tight, with uniform faint toning of pages; on the rear free endpaper there is some tape residue where the rough sketch was attached. Newport News, Virginia: Newport News High School, 1933. Unpaginated--slim book with stapled binding and green cover. End of year book for graduating class of 1933. First page is an original woodcut (an electrotype) print by by famed woodcut artist J.J. Lankes; it is foxed (especially at margins) and has a corner crease, actual illustrated area still looks nice. Last page is foxed, but interior pages are clean, except for just a few student signatures/message. London: John Boydell, 1781. Two volumes rebound as one in 2 of the original gilt-tooled leather-covered boards with new leather spine upon which the 2 original leather spines have been laid down--makes for an interesting and attractive "original" binding. There are 150 copperplate engraved plates after the drawings by Paul Sandby and accompanying text. We have been able to locate only two other copies for sale at this time, and one is the 1783 reprint.  Very good condition: clean and tight, with some edgewear and rubbing of leather; pages are clean and bright watermarked laid paper with slight toning at the edges.  There is no staining on the plates--not in the images, not in the margins. René Le Bègue was a Parisian photographer who founded the Photo-Club de Paris and was the first French photographer elected to England's Linked Ring. Alfred Stieglitz recognized his talent when he included six of Le Bègue's photographs in his personal collection. The semi-nude portrait offered here is typical for Le Bègue, who almost exclusively photographed nude women.
