Paris: Athanase Clouzard, 1965. Original stereoview by French photographer Athanase Clouzard (1820-1903). Previously in buisness with Charles Soulier, Clouzard left the partnership in 1859 and had his own firm producing stereoviews in Paris from 1860 until 1879. The stereoview offered here is from circa 1865 and is a view of a bridge over the Rofla Gorge in the Hinterrhein River in the Canton of the Grisons, Switzerland. Paris: Vaugondy, 1778. The image is 9 3/8 inches by 11 inches on a folded sheet measuring 11 1/4 inches by 16 3/8 inches. Original hand-colored in outline map of the German Empire by Didier Robert de Vaugondy (circa 1723-1786). He and his father Gilles Robert de Vaugondy were the premier French cartographers of the 18th century. This map was published circa 1778 in Vaugondy's Atlas Portatif. The map is guaranteed to be more than 240 years old. It is in about very good condition: clean and bright, withjust s few small spots of foxing; edges of paper are tanning well away from the image; binding edge is rough.. First Edition Thus. Written by British historian and clergyman Laurence Echard (1670-1730), this is an early history of England's "Glorious Revolution" beginning with a review of problems during the reigns of King Charles and King James II and concluding with the Declaration of Rights" (the full text of the Declaration is on pages 265-268) and the accession of King William II and Queen Mary II. The appendix contains a calendar of the Convention and a record of the presence/absence of each peer at every session as well as their recorded dissents. Although Ferrier was a competitor of Clouzard & Soulier, they did publish some of his 1850s images among the earliest 2-glass stereoviews before Ferrier merged his business with theirs. London: Henry Colburn, 1841. 2 volumes: 356, 270 pages. First edition. Rebound in 3/4 red morocco circa 1895-1915 by Stikeman & Co. (Henry Stikeman) for the bookstore of Charles Scribner's Sons. Marguerite Gardner was a socialite and writer who published two travelogues/memoirs: The Idler in Italy (1939) and The Idler in France (1941). First printings of the latter are much more scarce. Our example is enhanced by the gilt decorated binding signed by Stikeman & Co., art bookbinders who frequently rebound books for Scribner's in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The books are in near-fine condition: bindings a clean, bright and tight, with minimal color rubbing along joints; pages are clean and bright, with perhaps the barest hint of toning.. First Edition. London: J. Johnson, 1790. Volume I: folding map, xvi, 283 pages; volume 2: viii, 408 pages. De Lesseps accompanied La Perouse on the first part of his attempted circumnavigation of the globe. After investigation of the west coast of North America, La Perouse sent de Lesseps overland to take the journals and maps of the expedition to Paris. La Perouse and his ships subsequently were lost after they left Australia, and the journals carried by de Lesseps assumed great historical significance when published. Even more scarce than those records today are de Lesseps' report of his own overland travels through the Kamtschatka peninsula. The report also includes 25 pages of vocabulary translating common English words into Russian, Kamtschadale, Koriac, Tchouktchi, and Lamont languages. Internally clean with only minor foxing, the two volumes in 3/4 leather over marbled paper covered boards have recently been sympathetically rebacked (original title and volume patches retained). The first printing of what is considered to be the best account of the uprising by Catholics in southwestern England that was precipitated by enforcement of religious changes of the Protestant Reformation, including publication of the Book of Common Prayer in 1549. The rebellion was put down within 2 months, and its leaders were executed. The book is in very good condition: clean and tight, with light toning of pages, a few tiny smudges on the covers, and a tiny (1/16") tear on the bottom edge of a few leaves. An attractive copy..
