Description:
Dublin: The Cuala Press, 1939. [1939] 46 pages. For all practical purposes, this is the first edition because all except for 4 copies of the first printing were destroyed by Yeats' wife. The book is mostly prose on a variety of topics, but it does include the first published appearance of the one-act play in verse, "Purgatory." The book is clean and attractive in the original blue wraps decorated with a front cover illustration by Jack B. Yeats. One 1 very tiny closed tear at fore-edge of front & back covers; a hint of faint tanning at edges of cover; a single spot of foxing on front cover; a tiny rust spot from a paper clip in inside front cover & half-title page. Better than it sounds, and overall a nice copy of an increasingly scarce book.. Second Edition. Paperback. Collectible-Very Good/No Dust Jacket, as Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

Description:
New York: Mitchell Kennerley, 1914. x, 93 pages. 12mo. First printing of the first edition of this play, that was Lawrence's fifth published book . Because this edition preceded the British edition, this is the true first edition. Both this play and an earlier short story, "Odour of Chrysanthemums," are transparently autobiographical and reflect Lawrence's attempts to mourn the death of his uncle . The book is in very good+ condition: clean and tight, with some rubbing of the color on edges of covers; a tiny rubbed spot on page 75 affects 2 letters in one word. The rare dustjacket, is, as expected, 4mm shorter than the book and has a printed "$1.25 net" price label covering the original $1.00 price on the spine. The jacket is in very good condition: lightly toned and has a reading crease along the spine (N in Lawrence and L in Holroyd on spine have tiny scrape where crease hits); very light soiling limited to the spine of the…
