Description:
West Kingston, R.I. : Donald M. Grant, 1982. First Edition. An exotique tale, for a time mistakingly thought written by Clark Ashton Smith, but soon after proven not to've been written by CAS. However it does exist with his name, and it will always remain a curious error of wishful bibliographic thinking. The introduction lays out the errant mythodology. The illustrations by R. J. Krupowicz would've suited Smith's exotique prose beautifully. The book is limited to 1250 copies and signed by the artist. As new in d.j.

Description:
Sauk City: Arkham House, 1948. [First edition]. A twice-signed, presentation copy, the year of the book's publication, inscribed, and corrected, with nine corrections in the author's hand. The inscription to his friend Don Carter, reads, "For Don, the night after moving into the new home, sans Katzenjammer, Dec. 4th, 1948. Madam Mad No Whiskey, Dog Gone Madam Mad. Dry Shift." By explanation, CAS had met and been romancing Carolyn Jones Dorman, and moved into her home in Pacific Grove, California. Carolyn had three children from a previous marriage. CAS enjoyed the pleasures of alcohol, sometimes overdoing it, but Carolyn here, was wasn't allowing it. There are nine-handwritten corrections to this copy, in addition to the author's full-signature on the half-title page. Signed copies of this title are scarce, but corrected copies are rare. Some dullness to the cloth, moderately soiled, d.j., with signs of aging, and some darkening to the spine-panel of d.j. Still a very good copy in very good d.j.

Description:
Saddle River: Gerry de la Ree, 1973. First Edition. After purchasing the Samuel Loveman, Clark Ashton Smith collection in 1970-71, Gerry de la Ree published two Clark Ashton Smith books: Grotesques and Fantastiques being the first, Klarkash-ton & Monstro Ligriv, the second. Printed in an edition of 650 copies, 600 unfortunately, were published with stiff-paper covers, only 50 in hardcover. In my opinion the entire 600 copy edition of Grotesques & Fantastiques, should've been published in hardcover, it is that important an addition to the CAS canon. The book contains sixteen previously unpublished poems, twenty-four "grotesques" pieces of original art, plus both covers, and a six-page introduction, mostly reprinting portions of letters from CAS to Loveman. This little volume is a treasure trouve to any Clark Ashton Smith enthusiast. A fine copy in stiff-paper covers.

Description:
Lakeport, Calif.: The Futile Press, 1937. [First edition, second state]. The Futile Press, founded by the Beck brothers, Groo and Claire later assisted by Clyde Beck, were young F & SF zealots, who, with their small handpress printed H.P. Lovecraft's: Notes & Commonplace Book, this booklet by Clark Ashton Smith, and had plans for future publications including Clark Ashton Smith'sThe Jasmine Girdle. Friends with Robert H. Barlow, there developed some bad blood between such notables as Clark Ashton Smith, and other fantasy field personalities, with Barlow and the Beck brothers's association with Barlow, and projects were shelved. With the last surviving brother, Groo, Roy A. Squires purchased The Futile Press's remaining papers and discovered that there were loose sheets ot NERO enough to complete 13 complete books. The books were handbound in vellum spine and marbled papers, by Kris Anderson, now Kris Etchison. Very handsome presentation. So this would bibliographically be termed a "Second… Read More

Description:
Sauk City: Arkham House, 1964. [First Edition]. Some of Smith's most beautiful writing is found within these fifty pages of worded jewelry. The virtuosity of his command of language is on full display". . . For traffic in the realms of mystery and wonder, in the marts of scarce-imaginable cities and metropoli a million leagues away, on the last horizon of romance, my dreams departed with its caravan of laden camels from The Caravan, in Poems and Prose. A very small print-run, even for Arkham House, only 1016 copies printed. A very-fine unread copy in fine d.j., with jthe merest trace of color at the folds, as is common with this cover paper.

Description:
Sauk City: Arkham House, 1971. [First edition]. Submitted to Arkham House in 1949, SELECTED POEMS was a career-spanning selection by Smith himself, with many early poems revised or rewritten, including his epic THE HASHISH-EATER which is here presented in its final version (personally, I prefer it's first version as presented in EBONY & CRYSTAL, in 1922). Smith considered SELECTED POEMS his greatest book because he first and foremost thought of himself as a poet. Unfortunately the delays in publication due to economic concerns of such a hefty volume of poetry, then additional frictions between Derleth and Carolyn Smiththe author's wife, Smith did not live to see its eventual appearance in print. Over 500 poems. This is an exceptional copy, very fine, unread with white paper and just a few tiny rubs to d.j. A lovely copy!
