Description:
Garden City: SFBC, 2001. First Printing. If you're looking for a "one-book" introduction to H.P. Lovecraft and his fictions to give to friends, this be it. This HPL collection contains the very BEST of his tales, and even includes his novelAT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. In addition his: HISTORY OF THE NECRONOMICON, NOTES ON WRITING WEIRD FICTION, SOME NOTES ON A NONENTITY, and CHRONOLOGY OF THE FICTION OF HPL. Terrific cover illustration by Ian Miller. This is NOT your old standard, lousy paper and paper-over-boards edition that we're all familiar with. This is a heavier binding, printed upon nice acid-free paper. Edited by Andrew Wheeler. Fine in d.j.

West Warwick, RI: Necronomicon Press, 1977. First Edition. The eighth publication from NP, contains all of Lovecraft's appearances in Hyman Bradofsky's noted amateur journal, including the SUMMER 1937 issue, "Dedicated to the Memory of the Late Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Essays, poetry, criticism, letters, and memorials by those who knew him. Additionally, there is an excellent biography of Hyman Bradofsky by Dirk W. Mosig in his foreword to the volume: Born in 1906 in New York city , Bradofsky's family moved to California in 1922, To pay for his legal education, he took a job with the Santa Fe railroad until the California earthquake of 1933, when he accepted a job for $3 a day" to help remove and reshelve records and books at the damaged Los Angeles Country Law Library. He did his job so well he was offered the job of county clerk of Pomona, California for $60 a week; a position he held for more than 40 years, His CALIFORNIAN was a unique amateur journal by the standards; not only was it… Read More

Description:
West Warwick,: Necronomicon Press,, 1977. Reprint.. The fifth publication from Necronomicon Press, being a reprint of an edition of 50 numbered and signed, which I believe were sold at the First World Fantasy Convention in 1976. THE CONSERVATIVE was Lovecraft's own amateur paper. The value of THE CONSERVATIVE to the HPL enthusiast is best summed up by his friend Mr. Frank Belknap Long, who wrote the foreword to this volume, "The HPL I met and talked with at length on his first visit to New York was an infinitely more mellow HPL than the young man of 25 who could write: "Outside the domain of pure literatureTHE CONSERVATIVE will ever be found an enthusiastic champion of total abstinence, and the domination of the English and Kindred races over the lesser divisions of mankind." And later in his introduction, "In the socio-political realm (his) perceptiveness was blunted by the prevailing mores of the period. But otherwise, and even in that realm, there is a total absence of the flabiness of character… Read More

Description:
FANTASY COMMENTATOR was primarily devoted to articles dealing with various aspects of Fantasy and Science Fiction, rather than fans submitting their fictions, or fan squabbles. Sam Moskowitz, for instance, serialized the first draft of his Fanzine History, THE IMMORTAL STORM, in the pages of FC. A. Langly Searles continued column, FORGOTTEN CREATORS OF GHOSTS, provided bio/bibliographical information about current, and neglected ghost story writers of the past; this issue exploring William Fryer-Harvey. .Fantasy in the IDLER magazines by William H. Evans, & Searles is to be noted. Sam Moskowitz defends Donald Wollheim's, PORTABLE NOVELS OF SCIENCE FICTION. They took their time with this publication; nicely printed. Rear-page present, but detatched. These early issues deserve to be reprinted. Sam Moskowitz continued FANTASY COMMENTATOR well into the 1980's. A very good copy.

Description:
West Warwick, R.I. : Necronomicon Press, 1996. First Printing. The second biography of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, this Herculean undertaking by S.T. Joshi exhumes incredible minutae of HPL's life and times, and may be dense reading for many; you could term L. Sprague de Campt's biography as a general introduction to the man, whereas Joshi gets inside HPL's skin with a surgeon's skills. This hardbound edition of 250 signed copies was sold out before publication. With the addition of new HPL discoveries, this biography was expanded by Joshi and published in a two-volume set by Hippocampus Press, but this single volume contains all the meat & potatoes, and is the one I find myself referencing most easily. As new in d.j., signed by the biographer.
