Signed by Halsell on front free end paper and dated by same hand, "8.28.1944" on verso of title page. Personal narrative of life in early Wise County, Texas, cattle drives and cowboy's life. Dedicated to "The Old Cherokee Strip Riders who galloped up and down the Old Cimarron with me in the years ending in 1889". Rust-red colored cloth boards with black graphic of cowboy and horse and black print. Light corner and spine end wear. Pages are tanned, and interior is clean but for tiny smudge in margin of one page. A few bottom page corners have slight creasing.

Rear end paper has list of page #s with subjects of interest, i.e., "116 Stampede" or "124 Cowboy bedroll". Many penciled notations throughout, and opens to signature pp 176-177. Page edges are tanned. Dust jacket has bright cowboy camp fire graphic on front. Substantial chipping loss and creasing on edges.A few small dark spots show on white background.Now in protective cover. A singular piece of history.

One page has diagonal crease on bottom corner, and paper is tanned. Dust jacket has price intact. Orange color has faded somewhat on spine. Corners and spine top show a chipping with a little loss. Two small closed tears on top of front panel - a 1/2" closed tear at hinge, and another about 1/4". Yellow of rear panel shows some rubbing and spotting.
