Signed by Halsell on front free end paper and dated by same hand, "8.28.1944" on verso of title page. Personal narrative of life in early Wise County, Texas, cattle drives and cowboy's life. Dedicated to "The Old Cherokee Strip Riders who galloped up and down the Old Cimarron with me in the years ending in 1889". Rust-red colored cloth boards with black graphic of cowboy and horse and black print. Light corner and spine end wear. Pages are tanned, and interior is clean but for tiny smudge in margin of one page. A few bottom page corners have slight creasing.

Page edges have substantial foxing/spotting, and end papers have slight discoloration. Text block is clean, and book is tight. Publication announcement from The Pemberton Press is laid in. Dust jacket has price intact. Flap folds, hinges and spine show considerable insect damage. Rear panel and flap folds show darkening and foxing on edges. A few small closed tears on edges. Still bright front panel with brown backbround and historic county buildings depicted. Now in protective cover.

Dark cloth of boards has a few small and minor spots. Light edgewear. Interior is clean, bright and crisp. Fascinating look at a rough and tumble time when law and order was in its early stages in most of Texas.

The inscription seems obviously from the author but is without signature. Also, laid in is a postcard with photo of first settlement of Hopkins Co. and handwritten notation, presumably by author. Reverse has information about the book and ordering it from author, Gladys St. Clair. 99 pp. Tan cloth boards with bright gilt print on spine. Bottom edge has some staining, perhaps foxing, since page edges have foxing, and there is light foxing on end papers. A little foxing on occasional pages, too. Front end papers have ghosting where news clippings must have lain. Very light edge wear. Some highlights of American history along with details of public officials of Grayson County, Texas, county seat Sherman, and its history. 210 pp. Tight copy with clean interior except for small black smudge on front free end paper. Pale boards show some light fading and sunning with an indented mark on the rear board. White background of dust jacket also shows some spots of black smudging. Edges have light creasing, with rear top edge having a tape repaired tear. Top portion of spine shows slight fraying and a small hole on top of front hinge.
