AUNT JO'S SCRAP BAG. Six volume Set, Complete . My Boys, Etc.; Shawl-Straps; Cupid and Chow-Chow, Etc.; My Girls, Etc.; Jimmy's Cruise in the Pinafore, Etc.; An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving, Etc.

By Alcott, Louisa M(ay)

1882 The Six-volume set complete. Uniformly bound in the original olive cloth with brown and gilt titles and blimd-stamped decorations. Each book has markings from a rural NH (Abbie Greenleaf in Franconia, NH) library that include a small stencil 'A' on the spines, Very attractive bookplate of the Greenleaf's designating this/these book(s) to the library in the name of the library's namesake's Abbie & Charles Greenleaf. An attractive and large bookplate featuring the famed 'Old Man of the Mountain' with the Profile Lake in the foreground. Charles Greenleaf was proprietor of the Profile Hotel on the shore of that lake, in Franconia Notch, NH, for many years. Another bookplate in the rear showing the book's signing out by penciled in number that belonged to the patron. These , and many others, were put and stored in the attic of the library likely since the new wing was built in 1964/5, possibly before. I resqued many them last winter during a sale. A nice set. Good Condition with mild to moderate wear. .

Histoire Du Petit Negre Sambo. 1921 Antiquarian Hardcover . & A Copy of the Same Book with All the Same colored illustrations by Bannerman BUT printed by Stokes in English, same format)

By Bannerman, Helen

NY: Frederic Stokes, 1921 Moderate general wear. Quite elusive in French. 56 color illustrated pages from the original plates of Helen Bannerman's LBS. NOTES: "The book's original illustrations were done by the author and simple in style, typical of most children's books, and depicted Sambo as a Southern Indian or Tamil child. The book has thematic similarities to Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, published in 1894, which had far more sophisticated illustrations. However, Little Black Sambo's success led to many counterfeit, inexpensive, widely available versions that incorporated popular stereotypes of "black" peoples." This book will be combined with a more modern example of the same publication (same colored illustrations by Bannerman & printed by Stokes in English, same format) A disbound but never-the-less complete example with all illustrations and text for reading in English. email for photos if this is a bit comfusing. Mat G. . First This Illustrated Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 24mo - 6" x 3.5".
