Botanical specimen journal l. A loosely bound, half leather, string-tied portfolio containing Forty-Two folded loose signatures, each with a unique dried, and pressed botanical specimen mounted with full descriptions including scientific and common useage names, leaves, flowers, roots, family, genus, etc...on the opposite page. These are mostly small Spring & Summer plants with flowers; Indian Turnip, Lady Slipper, Iris, etc.... found in and around Laconia, NH during the Spring & early Summer of 1913. On most sheets, plants have stained the opposite page with an impression. Quite an exceptionally well-preserved and interesting hand-crafted book. This was assembled by the Valedictorian of St. Joseph School from the graduating class of: June 15, 1913. The student 'Alfred Paquette', has also been so kind as to leave his original hand-written 'Valedictory' speach in clear flowing script with pen. 5 single-sided pages. Gray/green wraps with light age discoloration, with binding lean, but the book is very well bound, interior clean and unmarked. 353 pages with 3 unobtrusive single-line library stamps on interior pages.

1881 New York: Peter Henderson & Co, 1881. First edition. Hardcover. 410 text pages + index and 1 page of ads in the rear. 7 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. Dark Green cloth binding, gilt lettering on spine and cover. Small owner bookplate to the verso of the front cover, also a tiny bookseller sticker in the gutter of the same. Minor bumping and rubbing, else about Fine Condition. A lovely looking example of the scarce early book on horticulture.

Hardcover Publisher: MacMillan, NY, 1928 Used - Good. Jacket shows wear at extremities, but the cover image of a cottage garden is way charming. Book solid.

Charlotte, VT: Garden Way Publishing, 1972 Very scarce, being the first Bulletin by this publisher who went on to create dozens (hundreds?) more over the following 24 years. The co. began in 1970 selling Gardening supplies by mail-order, this was their first Bulletin to be published, it is an original printing, (NOT a copy). It consists of 8 standard 8.5" x 11" sheets folded in 1/2 and side-stapled twice, printed 1 side only. 7 sheets are numbered 1-1 through 1-7, the cover sheet is light green paper and printed front and back (not on the inside) . A bit odd but not altogether unusual for a self-published booklet. Nicely preserved condition with staples being a bit rusty (showing age).

Bozeman, MT: Avant Courier Book and Job, 1895 NOT a reprint, 24 pages including the covers, pps 175-194. Nice light brown wrappers of laid paper titled in black, a bit chipped/worn, old vrrtical crease in center, still VG & Quite uncommon.

Harpers, 1899 1899 (1895) 30 Beautiful and colorful Full-color plate illustrations, along with 57 more by the author. Old dampstain along top corner few pages. 337 pages. Quite nice owner gift inscription (in script) dated June 28, 1902 on the front fly. Otherwise Clean and square in the original dark orange illustrated cloth with gilt titles, quite attractive. The Deadly "Amanita" as frontispiece.

Stuttgart: Kosmos, 1958 156 pages, 40 full-page plates, text in German. A very nice dust wrapper with a medium sized chip in the bottom quadrant.
