If one wanted to know what was the number one song of - say - June 17, 1973, one would flip to the page for June 17 (there is a page for each day of the year) and look along the left hand margin for 1973. The answer is "MY LOVE" by Paul McCartney and Wings. The listing also indicates that this song was #1 for 22 days at that point.
