In aedibus Aldi, et Andreae soceri, Venetiis [Heirs of Aldo Manuzio; Andreas Torresanus, Venice]: ., 1521 ff. [60], 320 numbered leaves. Woodcut Aldine anchor and dolphin printer's device on the title page and last leaf. Latin Italic type. Some age stain, especially on first and last leaves. In several places the name of Erasmus is obliterated in ink by a censor. An early ownership on the title has been washed out, and a small marginal chip has resulted. Small 8vo. 160 mm. Edges decorated red. Early nineteenth century full vellum binding. Lacks front fly leaf. This second and improved Aldine edition is essentially a reprint of the edition of 1516, edited by Giovanni Battista Cipelli, called Egnazio (1478-1553), with the addition of annotations by Erasmus, which were first published in the Froben edition of 1518. Full vellum binding with leather labels; stamped in blind on the front board with the arms of George Matthew Fortescue (1791-1877) of Boconno in Cornwall, and Dropmore in Buckinghamshire. A famous book collector and member of Parliament for Hindon (1826-1831) and a Captain in the 25th Regiment. This armorial stamp is easily confused with Hon. George Fortescue (c.1578-1659) an English essayist and poet. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! SCARCE.. Hardcover. Very Good.

Appresso Cosimo Giunti, Stampato in Firenze (Florence): ., 1600 pp. [1], 93 [i.e. 95], [1]. Irregularities in numbering, but apparently complete. Small 4to. 220 mm. Engraved title page. The colophon has a wood engraved Giunti Fleur-de-lis and the text: In Fiorenza, Nella Stamperia di Cosimo Gionti. 1600. Con licenzia de'Superiori (very similar to the wording on the title page). Decorative initials in the text as well as typographic and wood engraved head and tail pieces. The engraved title is most unique, as it appears unfinished or a work in progress. It is meant to represent the promise of the youthful hero of the poems. Michelangelo is said to have prized this book. Some old worming and age stain, but generally good. Loose, in an early flexible vellum binding. On the engraved title is an old ownership stamp of the Bibliotheque Marseille; and a larger oval stamp in red indicating that the book was sold in 1845. Includes: Twenty-eight novels by Boccaccio; and his description of the plague in Florence in 1348. With an extensive foreword by Anton Federigo Seghezzi. This collection of his lesser known, but significant works is treasured by all collectors of the Renaissance humanist Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375). A great Italian author and poet, a friend, student, and correspondent of Petrarch. His works in the Italian vernacular became a model for all who worked in that language for almost a millennium. The text below the shields reads: "INVENTARIO DELLE COSE DEL LA SAGRESTIA DEL DUOMO EDE LALTRE COSE MOBILI DELU OPARA RIFATTO LASICO DA VOLTA AL TENPO DEL UENE RABILE UOMO FRANCESCHO DI PAOLO TADDEI ANNO D. 1475." [Roughly translated: Inventory of the things in the sacristy of the Duomo Ede. Taken from the last by the incomparable Frances Taddei in the year 1475.
