A large folio leaf from the incunable Latin Bible printed by Adolf Rusch, Strassburg, for Anton Koberger at Nuremburg, not before 1480. The leaf is from the Book of Job & measures 420 x 325 mm (16 ½ x 12 ¾ inches) printed in two columns, nicely hand rubricated with paragraph marks and initial letters in red. Small tears in lower margin with no loss. Fresh and very clean. See Goff, Incunabula in American Libraries (1964), item Goff B-607; ISTC ib00607000. ¶ Imprint as Sack (Freiburg) 656. Ascribed to the Basel press of Johann Amerbach by A. Hartmann (Amerbach-korrespondenz (1942), I, p. 2, n. 2). The leaf measures 395 x 285 mm (15 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches) printed in double columns, 50 lines in roman type. Rubricated paragraph marks. Page number (3) in ink to upper edge of verso; light browning. 80 mm (3-inch) closed tear to upper inner margin, with mild loss; very old (contemporary?) ink marginalia to outer margin on verso. The leaf measures 370 x 260 mm (14 ½ x 10 ¼ inches) printed in two columns. 53 lines, Gothic type. Rubricated paragraph marks and highlights, several small paragraph marks in blue. ISTC ij00260000. ¶ John Bromyard (d. c. 1352) was an influential English Dominican friar. In his Summa praedicantiumhe shows a less austere sense of the preacher's office, and includes sermon material of every description. Although not an original thinker, Bromyard was a venomous and effective critic of abuses and vanities in all areas of ecclesiastical and secular life.
