In the Uranian Press tract style, two lines of text (here, "¡Death, brother of sleep;" and "Holy Primaeval King!") are printed above and below a relief print. The print adds the text, "INJECTED IT INTO HIS VAIN | SEE WHETHER THE SHOTS WILL HELP THE DISEASE," around a fairly inscrutable image. After the first edition of 1878. "Satanism, that is, The throne of Satan fought from the throne of the Holy Spirit. Refutation of the errors of the Spiritist school": an anti-Spiritist polemic by the Spanish priest and Carlist politician, Vicente de Manterola y Pérez (1833-1891). Spiritism was an early offshoot of Spiritualism, codified in the mid-19th century by the French educator Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail (1804-1869), under the name Allan Kardec.

The propsectus and first issue of Noah Worcester's FRIEND OF PEACE quarterly journal, which ran to 1827. Worcester (1758-1837) was a Revolutionary War veteran and Unitarian Congregationalist pastor who helped lay the foundation for American peace movements with his 1814 tract, A SOLEMN REVIEW OF THE CUSTOM OF WAR. Small Uranian press broadside of the ancient Christian symbol of the fish, in a decorative border, signed in the print by Dorothea Baer Tyler with her "d.b.t." monogram. The caption prints, "ICHTHUS," the Greek word for fish, as an acronym for the Greek words for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour." No date is provided for the print, but circa 1962 is likely; that year, "ichthus" was also printed on the cover of the Uranian Press's 1962 portfolio, 9 GNOSTIC TRACTS (there, in Greek letters), in red on green paper. First edition in English. A series of eight lectures on Origen delivered at the University of Uppsala in Sweden and first published in French in 1925. The text, which was originally intended to "prepare the way for a coming work of a very comprehensive nature," deals "critically and exegetically with Origen's literary activities and mental processes" and emphasizes the influence of Greek philosophy on the early Church and its struggles. The work includes chapters on Origen's literary methods, cosmology, Christology, eschatology, and teachings on the doctrine of redemption. Rare in the dust jacket.

Traces of graphite guide lines; graphite inscriptions, L and R, on first and second sheets, respectively. Colored illustrations for Peter L. Bernsteins article, "The New Religion of Risk Management," in the March-April 1996 issue of HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW. The first two images show Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat bearing lighted torches, as figures of "old religion" walk off into the night. The third shows the same Enlightenment thinkers behind three painted wheels inscribed with "3," "7," and "9." Responding to a question of how fairly to divide money wagered on an interrupted game of dice, Pascal and Fermat together solved an old mathematical puzzle, laying the foundation of probability theory. But today, Bernstein asks, "Have we replaced old-world superstitions with a dangerous reliance on numbers?"

An anti-Calvinist pamphlet from the Unitarian Controversy of 1805-1835, insisting upon "right of thought" and separation of church and state as fundamentally Christian principles. The author targets Massachusetts's "orthodox party" of Congregationalist clergy as heirs to Constantine and Rome in their abuses of Christianity and mental enslavement of their churches' laity. Sabin attributes the work to John Lowell, Jr. (1769-1840), the prominent Federalist Massachusetts lawyer, prolific pseudonymous pamphleteer, and author several years earlier of "Are You a Christian or a Calvinist?"
