Original hand-colored copper-plate engraving, this being plate 2 from William Woodville's Medical Botany. Common name of plant added in elegant 19th century script to top of page. No other names or markings. Full title: "Medical botany containing systematic and general descriptions, with plates, of all the medicinal plants, indigenous and exotic, comprehended in the catalogues of the materia medica, as published by the Royal Colleges of Physicians of London and Edinburgh...." Light image transfer from adjacent plate and light thumbing (see image). 6 x 8.5 inches.

Presentation copy. Full burgundy morocco Kauffmann binding. Gilt ruled boards; elaborate gilt dentelles; gilt ruled hubs & foliated compartments. Misspelling to spine title: "Refration ... of the Eye." Marbled endpapers. Gilt ruled edges. One hundred and forty-seven illustrations. Very nice, clean Kauffmann binding without previous owners' markings.
