Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, New York. Published by arrangement with G. P. Putman's Sons. Copyright 1928 by Putman's Sons. Grosset & Dunlap Publishers ,New York. Navy Blue cloth over boards orange lettering. NO DJ. VERY GOOD/NO DJ. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of her first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, 20 Hrs., 40 Min. reintroduces Amelia Earhart-one of the most fascinating figures of the 20th century-to a new generation of readers. Through her candid voice and fresh prose, Earhart recalls the events that led to her passion for flight. Moved by the tragedy of World War I, Earhart left high school to work in an army hospital in Canada. It was the golden age of aviation-a time when people still stopped on the street at the sight of an airplane gliding overhead, and Earhart was captivated by the goings-on at a local airfield. Her fascination quickly escalated; she took her first flying lesson in 1920 and by 1928, just one year after Charles Lindbergh made his famous transatlantic flight,… Read More

Description:
A really entertaining telling of the history of the Allan clan and early Vermont. Many outside of the state do not know Vermont is the 14th state because it refused to join the other 13 and was an independent nation for awhile after the Revolution. Nor that both New York and New Hampshire (and Canada) at various times wanted to absorb it into their states. Ethan and his brothers (notably Ira) were the main reason behind keeping Vermont independent, masterfully playing the rough game of colonial politics as amusingly recounted in this book. It does fade at the end, mainly because (spolier!) Ethan, the most outrageous of the bunch, dies, and Ira's last years took place outside of Vermont and thus were hastily told. Overall though a very enjoyable read. The Stephen Green Press, First Edition, #s' line 1-76. Very Good, solid, clean text, no writing, light soiling at head and fore-front. DJ Very Good, three small closed tears. Front flap clipped. A Very interesting read.

Knopf, 1998. Knopf, First Edition, Fourteenth Printing, 11/03/1998. Bound in black, half cloth and paper over boards, silver lettering. Near Mint/DJ Very Good ++.. In August 1914, days before the outbreak of the First World War, the renowned explorer Ernest Shackleton and a crew of twenty-seven set sail for the South Atlantic in pursuit of the last unclaimed prize in the history of exploration: the first crossing on foot of the Antarctic continent. Weaving a treacherous path through the freezing Sea, they had come within eighty-five miles of their destination when their ship, Endurance, was trapped fast in the ice pack. Drawing upon previously unavailable sources, Caroline Alexander gives us a riveting account of Shackleton's expedition--one of history's greatest epics of survival. Thomas Y. Cromwell & Company,Boston, 1886. First Edition, 1886. Thomas Y. Cromwell & Company,Boston, 1886. Dark Green cloth over boards. black and gold designs and lettering. VERY GOOD/NO DJ. This book is the best I've read covering the history of our most prolific and honorable women that shaped this country. They are also the first women to augment the station in the lives of women, and bring into view our capabiities to excell in all segment of society. These women set the examples by their quest for knowledge and proven achievements, far beyond the custom, rules and expectations of wife, mother and homemaker of the era. It is the best Biography/AutoBiography I have personally read on these famous women combined in such a small book. Keep in mind that was Sarah K. Bolton's era, 1841-1916. Some of the interviews were in person. She was much closer to the information then most written Biography/AutoBiography written today. On each one of these famous ladies, she was able to capture the path to… Read More
