Description:
Baltimore: Lord Baltimore Press, 1900. First. HB.Yellow Cloth. Cloth soiled as usual. Lettering still very good. Unusual bio of a man on front pastedown that likely was the prior owner's father./No Jacket.. There are 86 pages devoted to the Civil War. Other chapters deal with the Indian Wars against the Apache and ends with the Santiago, Cuba, campaign. Interestingly, the 6th was next to T.R.s Rough Riders but got scant attention. The book contains a record of Private John G. Thomas, 6th Cav, who served during the Civil War. It is tipped in on the front pastedown. The book is signed by Albert G. Thomas in 1900, likely the son of John. John served in the East at Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Mine Run, North Anna, Cold Harbor and several cavalry raids in 1863-4. He also was a POW at Belle Isle and Libby. Book came with a roster of survivors of the Sixth Regiment, dated 1/1/1900. Nice illustrations inside.

Charleston, SC: Walker, Evans &Cogswell Co, 1899. First. Hard Bound. G to G+. It has been used. Rear endpapers removed, but final page of text states "The End." Confederate gray cloth soiled with faded lettering but readable./None.. A REALLY RARE SOUTH CAROLINA UNIT HISTORY!! My research found there is virtually nothing written about these two historic units. THIS BOOK MAY BE IT!! The units served in fighting commands, namely Jones' and Jenkin's Brigades, Pickett's Division, Longstreet's Corps. They fought in both the Eastern and Western Theaters. A history was prepared in about 1885 by members of the unit and reviewed for accuracy at several reunions before being published in this little book. This is a scarce one. Price guidance for a copy is $1500. Howes 554. Dornbusch II-912. Not in Nevins.
