Description:
London: Oxford University Press, 1938. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. The first 4 volumes of this sweeping, scholarly study of the "production, refining, transport and distribution" of petroleum. All 4 volumes 1938 1st editions and all 4 in solid, very respectable condition --and all 4 include their light-blue dustjackets. Tight and VG- to VG (light spotting to a number of the panels, clean, evenly-applied tape reinforcement to each of the inner hinges) in bright, price-intact, VG- to VG dustjackets, with light chipping to a number of the spine ends and tips, mild soiling along the panels and light loss at several of the flap-folds. Still though, attractive and very presentable. Thick octavos, hundreds and hundreds of plates --and a number of fold-out charts-- complementing the text. Curiously, all 4 volumes have identical 1938/39 Third Reich stamps at the title pages, suggesting the set was de-accessioned from a Nazi institution or bookseller.
