Original quarter brown cloth and tan boards, title label with flying grouse on front cover. It seems most were given to author's friends. Signed presentation "To J. B. P. Jr, With best wishes and looking forward to another hunt with your dog which is not featured here. Yours, (author's signature)". On inside front cover is a pasted in typed name, John Bryant Pain, Jr. Hand written on the same is a note, "from Bill Claflin, Jr (the author)". There is a pencil asterisk at end of author's inscription, presumably by owner, and below another penciled asterisk with note "See page 14" (also in pencil) where the story of the other dog is described.
