cat40a. Boston: Meador, 1931. First edition. Dark green pebbled cloth, lettered in gilt. Crease in final blank pages, a clean very good copy. Quite a zany tale, concerns the gold rush, a golden geyser which spouts out animals, a gas chamber. Sort of an Ozark tall tale.

Carlisle: Coward, 1910.. Original stiff printed covers, some chipping to edges and wear to hinges; about very good. Laid in is a small leaflet by Jos. Burlington: "At T' Tatie Pot Supper" published in Whitehaven by R. Burlington, (1922). A single leaf, once folded. It prints a poem in the Cumberland dialect.

Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 1944. First edition. . Grey wrappers printed in black. Illustrated with plates. Very light edge wear, slight sunning to spine, basically a fine copy. This is one of 30 copies printed on 100% rag paper, so indicated by a white sticker on the front cover, and by a notice printed on the title page. An offprint: University of California Publications in Classical Archaeology Volume 1, No. 13, pp. 313-356, plates 41 and 42. A scarce issue of this booklet, which contains a very detailed examination of a mysterious rubbing of an inscription in Latin.

London: Sampson Low, Marston, (1931). First edition.. cat40a. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Newspaper obit of the author taped to the front inner cover (tape is yellowed), otherwise a bright and clean copy. 30-page publisher's catalogue at rear. African adventure novel "of the efforts of a villanous half-caste to stir up a revolution among the black men..." He is thwarted by the intrepid Belinda and her friends. Very uncommon.

Title page printed in red & black. Small abrasion from sticker removal on front fly leaf, light shelf wear to tips and spine ends, a nice bright copy, quite attractive. A utopian novel of a society based on self-control and moderation. Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature 1516-1975, pg. 50. Uncommon in nice condition.

Photographic frontispiece, some inserted plates, many illustrations within the text. Two publisher's catalogues at the rear, one dated 1900. A nice copy of an uncommon book.

cat40a. London: Hugh Rees, 1918. First edition. Green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Very light rubbing, a nice bright copy. Inscribed from Katherine Wedgwood. A brief introduction indicates that the author was killed in the Great War, and these are his stories published posthumously by his widow. Printed for private circulation. Short stories and one play. One story concerns Paraguay, several others are short fantasies. Oppolongo John is about an imp incarnated in a newborn baby.

cat40a. Ilfracombe: Stockwell, (1958). First edition. Red cloth, spine ruled & lettered in black. Inscription on front fly signed 'Arthur', quite possibly from the author. A clean, nearly fine copy in a slightly used dust jacket, a bit of rubbing along hinges and light chipping to spine ends. An interplanetary novel, of the planet Aster. Reginald 15733.

Aarhus: Kannike Tryk, 1975. White cloth, plain & unlettered, in a pictorial red dust jacket. Jacket a bit worn at edges, large piece torn from upper rear jacket panel, otherwise a nice copy. Published for the theater's 75th Jubilee. A large volume, profusely illustrated. This copy has been presented to someone in 1977, and has been signed by 13 people, at least some of whom are associated with Danish theatre. I cannot make out all of the names, but a few are: Barbara Freud-Magnus, Erik V. Jacobsen, Erik Wisler, Freddy Laursen, Max Gjedde, Jens Anker Olsen.

Seattle: Jawbone Press, 1979. First edition. . Two-tone cloth, printed paper spine label. Fine condition. Of an edition of 400 copies, this is one of a few bound in hard covers. Inscribed and signed by Aaron on a preliminary leaf, dated 1980.

The American edition was published by Stone & Kimball in the same year. A Utopian travelers tale, of a strange community in an unlocated mountainous region. Locke, Spectrum of Fantasy II, 12. The British edition is uncommon.

A fine copy in a slightly chipped and rubbed dust jacket, the spine somewhat faded and dust soiling to the rear panel; still, an attractive copy of a book not often found in the dust jacket. A tale of Algiers, of an impoverished Arab aristocrat's daughter and her marriage to a dervish. According to the jacket description, there is 'no tawdry "sheik" and "dancing girl" hokum..." Abdullah was the author of THE THIEF OF BAGDAD.

NY: Harper and Brothers, [c.1833]. . 8vo. Quarter-calf & plain cloth, edges marbled. Short tears at spine ends, old stain to upper margin, a very good copy in general. The spine is lettered: INTELLECTUAL / POWERS. Issued as Volume XXXVII in Harper's FAMILY LIBRARY, which series is mentioned in the Advertisement leaf at the front, dated 1833. First published in Edinburgh in 1830, this is one of myriad editions of this popular book. This copy contains a Canadian bookseller's ticket affixed to the front end paper: C.R. VINCENT / Book-Seller / Lennoxville, C.E.
