Princeton, NJ: J. T. Robinson, 1845. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original patterned blue cloth boards with leather to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and spotting and leather is quite scuffed and untreated. The leather exterior hinge for the front board is completely broken though the board is still attached by the two sets of binding string. Edges and corners also worn. The interior binding is in better condition and the text pages are secure. Pages do show various degrees of foxing and spotting. The front end page has an interesting bookplate as a contains the owners fingerprint (Lewis McK. Turner - possibly Lewis McKenzie Turner). No other markings found in the book, no handwriting etc. the low condition grade rating is only because of the loose front board which is precariously hanging on - the text pages themselves are tight and secure.

Baltimore, MD: John Murphy & Co., 1861. Hardcover. VG+. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, brown cloth boards, pattern and blind stamped on all sides with gilt text on spine. Ex-library copy from the Redemptorist Library of St. Alphonsus Church of New Orleans. Front pastedown shows an ex bibliotheca bookplate and the church stamp is on the first end page and title page. Binding is good in tight, no hinge cracks, no torn or loose pages though page 134/135 has a small tear in the center of the fore edge as the two pages were connected as they were not fully cut during the binding process. Front board has a small stain. An excellent reading copy and binding is strong.

Hardcover, brown cloth boards decorated with gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows edge and corner wear/bumps and spine shows tearing along edges. Decorated end pages in front and rear. Front end page has owner's last name written in pencil on the decorated end page and additional information on the second end page, also written in pencil. Contains 159 pages of text followed by another 54 pages of the mnemotechnic dictionary. Title page states fifth edition but does not show any additional printing dates other than 1886. Pages are toned due to age but binding is secure, no torn or loose pages.

Softcover, original 1923 publication with original wraps - not a modern reprint or rebound library copy. Both the front and rear covers are detached but present and both contain the name stamp of F. C. Schrader. Frank Charles Schrader (1860-1944) of Harvard and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) was a well-known and respected American geologist, mineralogist, and entomologist, and author. He was known throughout the west as the prospector's friend and was also one of the first federal geologists to explore Alaska. Hardcover, black cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Exterior shows minor edge and corner bumps/wear along with minor scuffing and soiling from handling. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age and there is some light spotting and foxing present. The front end page contains a large inscription which reads: "To W. W. Posey - President, Lancaster Iron Works, with Best wishes for many successful years as a shipbuilder". The signature cannot be made out completely but it also shows a date of January, 1942. Lancaster Iron Works was contracted during World War II along with their shipyard in Perryville, MD. Hardcover, original 1807 publication which appears to have been rebound with cloth in the late 19th to early 20th century. Tan cloth boards are soiled and darkened. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age and spotting and foxing is present throughout. Front and rear pastedown shows the signature of Eugene Mackey - the early 20th century attorney who had the books rebound. Title page also contains Mr. Mackey's signature along with signature of one of the original owners: D. G. Yost. Second front end page (opposite title page) has a thin spot from either a flaw in the paper or wear something was eraised. Hardcover, original 1799 publication which appears to have been rebound with cloth in the late 19th to early 20th century. Front pastedown contains the law publisher business label of Geo. T. Bisel Company along with the stamped name of the Pennsylvania attorney who likely had the book rebound. Tan cloth boards are soiled and darkened. Leather labels on spine are brittle and cracked with numerous chips missing. Internal binding of text pages are tight and secure and only issue with binding is a small crack starting on the front board. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present. Hardcover, red cloth boards decorated in black on front and spine. Exterior is darkened with some soiling and spotting along with edge and corner bumps. Rear board has a couple wrinkles to the cloth. Interior binding is good and text pages are secure. Pages are lightly tone due to age and some minor spotting and foxing is present. Previous owners name written on the front end page, no other handwriting found. One page has a small corner folds which has been straightened out.

Hardcover, red cloth boards with gilt text on front and spine exterior show spotting and soiling along with edge and corner wear, spine shows some sunning. The internal binding has hinge cracks at both boards but the text pages are good. Front and rear end pages of chipping because the paper is brittle. Front and page also contains original 1908 owner name and date. Text pages are printed on heavy bond paper with 25 plates tipped on brown card stock bond. Each image is protected with tissue guard and all have been verified as being present. No other markings found other than the 1908 signature, no bookplates, no library markings. Hardcover, tan cloth boards ornately decorated in black and gilt. Exterior shows minor spotting and soiling and very minor corner bumps. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight, no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting (though the front and page has very faint residue of an old price penciled in the corner). The book does not appear to have seen much usage and the only reason it does not grade as fine condition is because there is a small crimp/tear, which measures about one half of an inch, near the bottom outside corner of the half title page. The remaining pages are crisp the paper is mildly toned due to age. Pale blue end pages in front and rear. Quite the attractive copy considering the age. Text is in French.

Hardcover, brown buckram boards, blindstamped with gilt on front and spine. Canary yellow end pages. Front end page has a 1865 gift inscription which reads " To Sallie B. Paxson by her friend David Spencer, Feb 26, 1865". Boards show edge wear with bottom and corners worn to backing. Foxing spots throughout. No hinge cracks but spine is pulled and several areas. First edition thus. A rare edition by the author Amanda M. Corey Edmond.

The book actually contains two titles, first one being The Great Trial (372 pages) and Flowers of Fancy (100 pages) for a total of 472 pages. The book itself is in excellent condition except for the exterior cloth which shows spotting along with some spine fading. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No other handwriting other than that from the author, no bookplates, no library markings etc. The front end page and pastedown shows a rectangle mark which is likely from a piece of paper sitting there for many decades. Contains numerous plates, four of which are colored. The front pastedown contains a bookplate which reads "Ex Bibliotheca congregationis SS, Redemptoris Neo-Aureliae" and the title page has a stamp stating Redemptorist Library, St. Alphonsus Church, of New Orleans. No other library markings noted, no handwriting (other than what is in the title page stamp).

Exterior is heavily worn as are the edges and corners. Leather on spine also shows heavy wear and chipping with the exterior hinge on front board having leather cracked with binding string showing. Hinge crack can also be seen on the interior front though text pages are not affected. No publication date listed - nothing on the title page and copyright page is blank. Presumed publication date of 1866 based on the publisher name on the title page being listed as "Theodore Bliss & Co." instead of "H. C. Beck & Theodore Bliss" - which is shown on printings of 1851-1855. There is also a lightly penciled name on the second front end page along with a date of December 25, 1872. Hardcover, full leather binding decorated on front with portrait of Lincoln. The book is in poor shape with both the front and rear boards detached, most of spine is missing. The internal binding is complete though the front decorated end page is also detached. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Remaining pages are secure though paper is toned due to age. First edition thus with a single date of 1892 appearing on the title and copyright pages with no additional printings listed. Tissue guard to frontispiece is still present and attached. All exterior page edges gilt. This book is in rough shape and is basically in pieces, but is complete. As a first edition this is a good candidate for rebinding.

Hardcover, dark blue cloth boards with beveled edges decorated in gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows edge and corner bumps in cloth is spotted, scuffed and has some soiling. Library paper label is present on the bottom of the spine. Interior binding is overall good with text pages being tight. There is some thin cracking started at the front and rear board which may be limited to just the finish of the dark blue paper. First and second end pages has small erased marks in the upper outside corner. Pages are toned due to age and minor spotting and foxing is present. The end page and title page stamped: Library Sulpician Seminary, Washington DC"in the exterior spine has the paper label showing the book number. These were the only markings found though this book is considered an ex-library even though it came from a seminary. Title… Read More

Exterior shows spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear, gilt on spine is darkened. The internal binding is good with no hinge issues at boards but there is pulling at page 102 which shows a thin line of webbing. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present, with the end pages and pastedowns being the heaviest. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The only handwriting found in the book is an old store price penned in the corner of the front end page. There is also some faint staining along the top edge of the last 20-30 pages in the rear pastedown shows a diagonal crease from where the rear board was stressed. This is the first American edition published in 1922.

New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1934. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The original price of $2.00 is still present on the rear flap. DJ is scuffed soiled wear to the edges along with minor chipping. Tan cloth boards underneath are clean with only very minor corner bumps present. The internal binding is good in text pages are tight. The front end page contains the original owners name which is crossed out and there is quite a bit of foxing spots on the end page and opposite pastedowns. This issue appears to be limited to only these areas as the printed pages in between are unaffected. The copyright page states second printing, October, 1934. The DJ is a bit rough but the book itself would normally grade as a strong VG+, but the condition was lowered to VG because of the foxing spots on the pastedowns and opposite end pages.
