Description:
4º; cc.
First edition, rare, enriched by a splendid frontispiece engraved after a Guercino's drawing.
"The various characters arrive, speak and Death replies, in the company of an old man, who personifies Time, and a woman, a symbol of Infirmity. Playing on the personifications of the abstract, Mirandola examines, sometimes even with singular vividness, all sorts of humanity. There is Cleopatra, Plato, Diogenes, but there are also other dramatis personæ: an actor, a juggler, a priest, a friar, and it is no coincidence that the last figure is a victim of the plague, since the 1630 was still close and has left tragically serious memories also in Bologna" (E. Raimondi).

Description:
8° (mm 183x155); pp. VIII, 48, (2). Bella copia, intonsa.
Only edition, very rare.
In the poemetto of the Neapolitan poet and playwright Antonio Viviani, Li Maccheroni di Napoli, published in 1824, the term 'spaghetti' appears for the first time (intended as a diminutive name for the word 'string') in reference to this type of pasta. A name that will last over time, until today, and which will replace the more generic 'macaroni' (or 'maccaroni'), as well as the term 'vermicelli' (which will remain in use as a synonym for thicker spaghetti), names with which, the same food was referred to in previous literary sources. This same work also illustrates the different stages of processing this pasta shape (cf. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti).

Description:
8° (mm 174x105); pp. 142, c. (1). Elegante carattere corsivo romano.
First Italian translation printed as a separate work of The Letter of Aristeas to Philocrates, defined as the first written document mentioning the Library of Alexandria, as well as the first witness relating to the Septuagint. The Letter, which recent studies date back to the 2nd century B.C., is certainly "the only source that informs us about the cultural activity of Demetrius [of Phalerum] in Egypt", (M. Berti - V. Costa, La Biblioteca di Alessandria.
Read More

Description:
8° (mm 156x105); cc. (88). Legatura coeva in pergamena molle.
Rara edizione illustrata. stc It., 404. Tre sole copie in Edit xvi on-line.
Read More
