The gilt top edge and the spine are lightly foxed. Back board scuffed. Upper board bowed a bit. Inside with ZERO foxing, aging, marginalia, etc. .

Index in vol 3 for those in vols 3 & 4. All covers very clean. All gilt top edges bright & shiny as new. Other edges show just a bit of aging. Vol 3 upper hinge paper cracked, hinge still sound, no other hinges so effected. All very tight. All tend to stay closed when stood on their spines. .

Bright & clean & tight. . The book is subdivided into three different books. "THE ENGINEER or How To Travel in the Woods", "RAMBLES AMONG THE ALPS" with an 1854 cp date & "THE THREE GOLD DOLLARS". Each with an engraved tp, table of contents and from 15-20 engraving, some full page. Very nice inside, clean & bright, mild aging but no other type of stain. "RAMBLES" contains sections on Mt Blanc, Chamouny, glaciers. .

Gilt spine lettering darkened but still clear, as are the gilt front cover vingettes of a King & Queen. All text block edges aged but clean even tho all are rough cut. Inner hinge papers cracked but hinges still sound. Internally quite nice. Pages measure 245x165mm. Some minor aging but no foxing, marginalia, etc. All color plates have been high lighted with gum Arabic. .

Two images, "A Train of Waggons With Goods" & "A Train of Carriages With Cattle". . Image 25" wide by 8" high. Locomotive "LIVERPOOL" pulls the "Goods" train, "FURY" the other. A print, with its mate, which shows the world's second successful railway. Authorized in 1824 & completed in 1830, it was an immediate success. Also the cause of world's first railroad fatality. It took the life of a local member of Parliament in a freak acident. A superb print, with matting and framing of matching quality. All frame gilt very bright, the photo does not do it justice. Overall frame size 36" X 20". .
