Description:
1878. Somerset County, NJ, in the 17th and 18th centuries are the focus of this fascinating booklet, reprinted from the very rare 1878 book: Centennial History of Somerset County by Abraham Messler, D.D. The 140 page spiral bound 8 1/2" x 11" booklet, is printed on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. The booklet is new, but it was reprinted from a very old, poorly printed text, with handset type (in one case an "e" is upside down!). The type varies in density and some leters are broken, but we've enlarged the printing to enhance readability. We are excited to be able to preserve this material, as it is filled with valuable data for genealogists researching this area and period. Names of early residents abound, and there are biographies for Thomas Codrington, John Delavall, Gabriel Minvielle, Richard Hall, Peter Sonmans, Gawen Lawrie, Jacob Bergen, Derrick Van Vegten, Hendrick Fisher, Col. John Mehelm, John Hardenburgh, Philip Van Horn, William Mercer, Rev. Balthazar Bayard, Peter… Read More

Description:
1958. Early days in Buchanan County, VA are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this New 58-page booklet, comprised of excerpts from Looking Back One Hundred Years, a Brief Story of Buchanan County and Its People, written by Hannibal Albert Compton for the county's centenial in 1958. We opted for a shorter title: History of Buchanan County, Virginia USA. Because of the larger paper our booklet has fewer pages than the original book, but still includes all of the information. This spiral-bound booklet is printed on 11" x 8.5" 60# bond paper. The tri-color cover is on 80# card stock, with the front protected by a vinyl sheet. It is one of hundreds of historic titles we have reproduced, all preserving the writings of early historians. Among the many subjects discussed are: Physical Features of the Area, including Dismal Creek and Levisa River; the formation of the county; the families of Milton Ward, John s. Ratliff, and John N. Watkins; Other early settlers; lumber… Read More

Description:
1908. If your great great great grandpappy was from King and Queen County, Virginia and fought in the Confederate Army, you just might locate him in this 113 page excerpt from King and Queen County, Virginia, by Alfred Bagby, originally published in 1908. But Civil War buffs really don't need a personal connection to K & Q County to enjoy the personal observations from letters, diaries, and memoirs buried in the pages of this booklet. The spiral bound booklet "Civil War Annals of King & Queen County Virginia" is 5.5" x 8.5" and is printed on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover. Extracts from a citizen's diary add a personal touch to events like Kilpatrick's Raid, the Spears Raid and Dahlgren's Raid -- the famous action in which Colonel Ulric Dahlgren of the Union Army was killed. The roster of county soldiers is to be valued and expected, but how a sample of the daily countersigns used at a couple check points. These bits and pieces, gathered… Read More
