1862.. 1862.. Fair. - sc - Seventeen original graphite pencil drawings executed on two 14-1/4 inch high by 10-1/4 inch wide sheets of buff art paper. Each well-executed drawing is a finished illustration within pencil drawn frames laid out on the sheets as if they were cards. One of the drawings is initialed "N.A.W." and dated "1862". On one sheet, a central drawing appears to be a version of "Struwwelpeter" with a large demonic head on a thinner tree- like body. Eight drawings are laid out, as if cards, surrounding this central drawing. Among them is a child, looking much like a young Napoleon, seated on a wooden horse with a crop in his hand. Another drawing, this one a play on words titled "A soldier pitching his tent", depicts a soldier with a large brush and pitch bucket painting his tent with the resin.
