The book is tight and square with solid hinges and bindings, sharp tips, and clean, unmarred cloth boards. The textblock is clean with no writing, bookplate, or markings, and not BCE, ex-library, or remaindered. Numerous drawings by Charles Him. Preface by the author. 215 pages. 7" x 11¾ " tall. The slipcase is very good with edge fading and light wear. Includes The Heritage Press's "Sandglass," a four-page pamphlet about the great Irish genius and the importance of the two plays. In these two plays of ideas, Shaw employed traditional dramatic forms — Victorian melodrama, the history play, and the adventure story. Set during the American War of Independence, The Devil's Disciple exposes fake Puritanism and piety, while Caesar and Cleopatra is a cheeky riposte to Shakespeare and redefines heroism in the character of the aging Roman leader.
