Spine is decorated with 6 double gilt ribs or lines and has title in gilt in one panel 403 p. The boards are probably buckram with leather spine extending three quarters of an inch on to back and front and on all corners. At back the board is discolored. Author Beede was a judge and a student of the North Dakota Indians and known for his books Sitting Bull-Custer and Heart-in-the-Lodge. This book of poems is not wholly-Indian related but largely so. He asked Melvin R. Gilmore. Curator of North Dakota Historical Museum, to ad a commentary and Gilmore has done so in the form of a 22-page Appendix. This particular copy must have been Gilmore's as he has signed the appendix AND made a manuscript note to Beede's text. On page 22, he adds a note to explain the meaning of the Dakota word 'Hwin" and on page 195 he corrects "than" to "when." It seems reasonable to assume this is the first printing of the first edition and given by Beede to Gilmore

Very good. 215 p. 215 pp plus 8 pages ads at back A treasure with huge coloured pull-out map in perfect condition. This "Colonial Office Lists" started in 1862, and this is one of the very earliest. Moreover it is in magnificent condition, toned of course. The gilt titling and insignia are bright; corner bumps are minimal with no loss of color, tops of spine are undamaged. Ask for scans so as to see the very minor dark marks on front and back boards. Inside front board in a Victorian hand is written "Governor's Office."I also have 1866

This is close to being VERY GOOD but I describe it as only GOOD because there are small patches of colour loss on front orange board, a shop name etc inside front and back boards and some (not too many) foxing spots. For some reason it has become a very scarce book: it wasn't when I bought it donkey's years ago 286 text pages plus one leaf (two pages) of ads

A gorgeous survivor that looks new until one checks small details. The front-board in an akmost patrician purple  has a bright gilt coat of arms of the Ulster King of Arms, which as a title of the author. Spine in like colors and brilliant. fresh. So what are the small deatils that prevent my listint it as NEW. Bottom right fron corney has a miniscule losss of colour that may not show on the scan. Check! Inside front board must have been a bookplate becasue I see a trace of mounting. I will show the scan so you may assess whether it is significant In all other respects perfection with the tone of 132 years. 380 pages including the index. Undated but shown by Worldcat as FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1882.
Burke is perhaps best known as editor of Burke's Peerage (1847 et seq). In 1873, he wrote "the Rise of Great Families;" Reminiscencies is an update of that and, surprisingly, a scarcer book.
