A most attractive Bagster Bible in a signed binding of embossed dark green morocco; raised bands with titling in gilt; dentelle turn-ins; printed on "Bible paper" with all edges gilt. Bagster's monumental "Biblia Sacra Polyglotta Basteriana" appeared between 1817 and 1828 with most copies of the four volume edition being destroyed by fire. Bagster carried on, issuing different texts and transtlations in various combinations. This copy in French and English, on facing pages. Very Good binding.

First Edition copy, in what appears to be a bespoke binding of quarter dark brown calf over burlap, with very neatly done paper labels in tan paper printed in dark brown. There is some light and scattered foxing.~~This copy is signed on the half-title page with a personal inscription by David Grayson: "To | Mr. and Mrs. Laurence H. Parker | with the regard of | David Grayson | 1925". ~~There are two letters laid in as well. One, a TLS to "friend Parker" thanking him for a recent letter and expressing satisfaction "to have one who knows me as well as you do like what I write so well". It is signed Ray Stannard Baker [David Grayson was Mr. Baker's pen-name]. The second letter is a 3 1/2 page ALS to Mrs, Parker from Jessie G. Baker, Ray Baker's wife. Quarto; specically bound in green morocco with an elaborate gilt border, raised bands with decorations in compartments, dentelle turn-ins; 69 pages; printed with wide margins; with engraved portrait frontispiece protected with tissue guard; binding is a bit scuffed.~~With the name "A. H. Laflin" stamped in gilt to the upper board. This is almost certainly "Addison Laflin" who represented New York's 20th congressional district from 1865 to 1871. Likely a special edition of Mr. Bancroft's eulogy.
