Description:
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1993. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very good. Nine stories set in Hollywood. "Babitz is an acquired taste: her slewing style, bad-girl postures, and sad-funny takes on hedonism can be deliciously shocking... Here, though, as the narrator of these nine story/essays approaches middle-age-after all the drugs, booze, groupie sex, and wild passionate flings-the sense of brakes applied turns Babitz's voice sage as well as outrageous...and her wisecracking, ain't-it-the-truth-honey voice is just about perfect in illuminating the fact... Babitz's best book yet." -Kirkus Reviews Shortly after her death in 2021, the Huntington Library acquired her papers. According to Babitz's sister, "When I told Eve that The Huntington was very interested in her archive, she said, 'I would love to be with Blue Boy and Pinkie again, like when we were kids. It's as classy as the Beverly Hills Hotel so I know I'll be happy there.'". First edition (stated). A fine copy in a very good dust jacket… Read More

Description:
Albuquerque, NM, 1925. Three letters, each on a different style of letterhead, written in Baca's capacity as the attorney for various parties. In one letter, Baca requests the current status of a case; in another he requests a correction to a decree sent to one of his clients, and in the third he writes in requesting information about a case that was supposedly set for trial on the day he received the notice. In two of the cases, Baca appears to represent Hispanic New Mexicans. Baca was something of a folk hero in his native New Mexico, known for his participation in a gunfight in Reserve, New Mexico, in which he killed two men. Soon after he was made sheriff of Socorro County, New Mexico; he studied law and became a lawyer. While serving as an official representative of the Mexican government during the revolution, Baca was charged with conspiracy for helping arrange the escape of a Mexican general from the Albuquerque jail (he was acquitted). Two of the letters are carbon copies, but all three are… Read More

Description:
London, 1984. Ephemera. Very good. A news-filled letter to the horror writer J. N. "Jerry" Williamson, declining participation in his forthcoming New Masters anthology, but offering to write a story for the second volume: "I have a fund of tales simmering in my brain-pan, awaiting the time and opportunity to become print." (It is not clear if New Masters got off the ground-there is a similarly titled anthology with a different editor). Barker's letter is friendly, offering updates on the publication of the Books of Blood and Damnation Game and an unnamed screenplay going into production (probably Underworld). He clears up confusion over his agent and again expresses enthusiasm for contributing to one of Williamson's anthologies (he finally did with Masques 5). About 350 words, written in black felt pen on two white A4 sheets (8-1/4 by 11-5/8 inches). Signed "Clive." Dated based on internal references to the forthcoming publication of Books of Blood and the film project. Over the years I have had… Read More

Scotsdale, AZ and West Plains, MO: Another Rainbow Publishing, 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. A book documenting Carl Barks' first 122 Disney character paintings, which he began making in his seventies in the early 1970s. For many years, these paintings were his primary source of income and they were exceptionally popular at comics conventions and among Disney fans. The Walt Disney Company, at first uneasy by one of its former artists using its character, eventually embraced and celebrated Barks' work. In this book, just over 100 paintings are reproduced in full color at full-page size. The remaining paintings are shown in thumbnail images at the back, along with a complete list of Barks' 122 paintings, their size, and identifying marks. The essential reference for anyone collecting Barks' paintings. 10-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches. 311 pages. In a slipcase. Published in an edition of 1875 numbered copies, signed by Barks. Description:
Mountain Home, TX: Y-O Press, 1980. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. An exceptional copy of this classic of modern Texas books. Long Days is an anecdotal and oral history of the YO Ranch, which was started near Kerrville by Charles Shreiner in 1880. The book is profusely illustrated with halftone photographs and drawings. The author is best known for his mystery and science fiction novels. 192 pages. 8-1/2 by 11-1/4 inches. Drawings by Joe Beeler. First edition (first printing). This is a very good copy in a very good dust jacket, chipped in places along the edges. What makes this an exceptional copy is that it is inscribed, often at length, by many of the people associated with the ranch, including four of the Schreiners (Charles III--who inscribed the book three times; Charles IV; Gus; and Walter Schreiner). The book is inscribed to Sharon (Fancy) and Joe Marino of Bills Bar B Que, a popular BBQ joint in Kerrville, who apparently collected signatures over several years. In addition… Read More
