The recipient was a prolific writer largely in the fields of biography and history, although he also produced two novels. He had spent the war years in China and had interviewed Chairman Mao. Perhaps it was this, together with the fact that he was, as was Babb, married to a person of Chinese extraction, that led to the obvious friendship displayed in the inscription. The recipient is Janetta Parladé, the Marquesa de Apezteguia, a designer, painter and Bloomsbury socialite. She had quite an eventful private life. Bacon was one of the visitors to her home in Southern Spain.Small stain to top of a few sheets, not affecting the images. Covers rubbed and creased at the edges. Very good.
