WILLY POGANY'S BEAUTIFUL AND STRONG FULL-PAGE COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS ARE A PERFECT MATCH FOR PADRAIC COLUM'S HEROIC STORIES FROM IRELAND. At the back of the book are the author's Scholarly Notes (15 pgs). The green cloth book is in VG condition. The dust jacket is price clipped with some light soil at top edge of dj front flap. A previous owner's had put a thin short tape to hold the acetate cover to the back of the dj. Tape is gone but offset from thin tape is there at the bottom of dj's back. Dj has some edge wear at spine tips & corners, one small chip near bottom corner and neatly repaired closed tears which are not noticed on dj's front.Overall the effect of the dust jacket is good and complete. Walter Crane's Illustrations are Elaborate and Colorful.Printed on good paper stock in the French fold manner, 40 pgs plus color double-spread title page and a half- title page in red. Decorated endpapers. The book's edges & corners are rubbed, wear at spine's tips and edge, front inner hinge has some breaks to the paper (halfway down hinge to bottom - but it is tight, and at the very bottom of the back's fep is a neatly repaired 1/4" closed tear. Internally this copy is VG+ (clean, bright, tight with no marks.

INSCRIBED BY CROSS dated 1937. Inscription is personal and a bit wacky. Written in 1936 - the 3 characters speak in stereotypical black dialect. Book's owner F.E. Cross wrote his name in pencil at top edge of cover. He was probably related to the author. There are 2 pages of advertising at the back of the book - for children's musical school plays. The back cover has illustrated advertising for "Peter Rabbit" and "Goldilocks and the Bears" Operettas - both by Henry P. Cross. The front cover is black over orange title & illustration of " Little Black Sambo". There are 2 small chips at the bottom edge and a crease.
