A large print story book for boys dating from 1936, featuring cartoons, Irish jokes and school, sports and adventure stories illustrated with black and white drawings, with titles such as "The school that went broke" and "The Boy-Plane". Good in illustrated paper covered boards which are rubbed to the edges and lower cover, one third of the backstrip is missing and the spine is starting to crack but the binding is sound apart from one detached page. A few of the illustrations have been neatly coloured in. Ownership inscription of Stanley Evans. A scarce title, there is one copy at the British Library. Good 1936

Large oblong album (15x11inches) 'Photographs' in gilt to upper, textured cloth covered board. A brief synopsis appears on the final page. The programme is soiled, especially close to the foreedge. Hugo von Hofmannsthal adapted Sophocles's tragedy for the stage in Berlin in 1903; his work quickly took on a life of its own inspiring Strauss's opera, Elektra, and being translated for productions all over Europe.
