Description:
Henry Babou & Jack Kahane, Paris, 1929. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first Paris edition. 8vo. 217pp. Decorated paper-covered buckram, lettered in black at the spine. Corner tips rubbed and with just a little fox spotting to the endpapers and to several preliminary and concluding leaves. Binding just a little tender at several gatherings. Former owner name pencilled to the front free endpaper alongside an inked date and price. A very crisp cop, missing the scarce wrapper. 'Sleeveless Errand' was originally published in London by Eric Partridge in early 1929. That edition was swiftly suppressed by the authorities for its 'verbal obscenities' and almost all copies confiscated and destroyed. Encouraged by the strong recommendation of Edward Garnett, Jack Kahane purchased the rights and within a month had published the book in Paris where it sold for a hundred francs a copy. Following this success Kahane founded his celebrated Obelisk Press. Pearson A1..
