Description:
Published by Coward-McCann, Inc, New York; 1957. First American Edition. Signed. Condition: Near Fine/Very Good.
Bound in original beige cloth boards with green cloth spine and red lettering to the spine. Other than some slight darkening and bumping to the edges, the binding is tight and square and in smart condition. Inside, the pages are clean and bright with just a touch of toning. The book is signed and dated on the ffep by the author (please note we have been unable to verify this signature).
The book is housed in the original dust jacket, with the price of $3.95 to the front flap. It was designed by C. Walter Hodges. It is in smart condition, with just a touch of chipping to the edges, including a small tear to the top edge measuring aprox. 1cm, and some darkening to the spine and edges. In spite of this the jacket is attractive and complements the book well.

Published by William Heineman Ltd, London; 1981. 8vo. 311pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Near Fine/Near Fine.

Bound in original tan cloth boards with title to the spine. Other than some bumping to the spine ends and a crease running down the spine, the binding is square and tight and in very clean, smart condition. Inside, the pages are clean and bright with just some toning to note.

This smart book is housed in its original first issue jacket, which is in equally smart condition. There is a touch of bumping to the spine ends and edges, and some rubbing to the rear panel, but it is otherwise in bright condition, free from marks or damage.

In all, this is a lovely example of this first edition, second in Cookson's Tilly Trotter trilogy. It follows Matilda, Tilly, Trotter as she finds herself alone and pregnant after the death of Mark Sopwith, her husband in all but name. With her future suddenly uncertain, and facing hostility from his eldest child, Tilly leaves her native Tyneside… Read More
