Spines with five raised bands, ruled in gilt. The compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Elaborate symmetrical design to both boards, all in gilt. Inner boards with triple line border decorated in gilt with two decorative rolls and one ruled line and corner devices. Off-white silk patterned paper endpapers. Top edge gilt. A very good, bright and clean copy with small amount of chipping to the top of the spine and minimal rubbing and bumping to the extremities.

One of 200 copies, from a total edition of 700 for England and America, on hand made paper and with the plates printed as proofs on Japanese Vellum. Each of these 200 special copies has an original print of the etching "The Lion and the Unicorn" , signed by Cameron, as the frontis and is numbered and initialed by the publishers. The etching was not issued separately. Illustrated throughout with 434 etchings, each with the original measurements, date of the plate, number printed and other general notes by Frank Rinder. Some occasasional light offsetting from the plates to the text pages opposite but generally it is faint where it occurs. American Notes & Pictures from Italy are finely illustrated with eighteen engravings, some full page, by Frost and Thomson, The Uncomercial Traveller with twenty six by Dalziel. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities and scratching to the leather of the two bottom outer board corner pieces, but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.

The two issues have been bound into one hardbound volume and the binding has been beautifully hand painted, in acrylic and oils, with an abstract design, including the volume title, to both the boards and the spine by noted Neo-Expressionist American painter Gaylen Hansen. First five pages have neat hand written poems and there is a neat four line inscription, dated 1892, to the front blank endpaper, otherwise clean and unmarked throughout. Full dark green crushed morocco binding by (or possibly for, although the British Library lists one of the bindings in its collection as being bound by Dreyfous) Dreyfous of London, and with their paper label to one of the blank endpapers. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled and decorated in gilt. Both boards with decorative gilt borders and elaborate gilt design within. Double gilt ruled lines to the board edges. Gilt inner dentelles around red silk endpapers. All edges gilt.
