Cloth in excellent condition with very limited signs of wear. Dustjacket creased with several minor losses, although colour remains very bright. A lovely, clean copy of an influetial espionage adventure-romance by 'E7'.

Presented in a custom-made fleece-lined black quarter morocco clamshell box, with gilt titles to spine and black cloth over sides. Total dimensions 35 x 27cm. Very light handling. Artwork in lovely bright condition, with some wear due to its original use. Fine. A unique presentation of this Civil War era crime adventure, beginning with a young wife's bold trek from New Orleans to Honotassa with illicit goods, and evolving into a murder mystery amongst her hostile in-laws. First published in the US in 1961.

Jacket quite heavily sunned to spine, with wear and chipping to edges. Very good. A classic murder-mystery romance by one of America's best and most prolific mystery authors.

Contents clean, neat ink name to front endpaper, in a secondary or cheap edition binding, jacket with reduced (4/6) label to spine. Some minor edgewear, one short tear to rear. Shows well. The prolific and long-lived U.S. mystery writer was dubbed 'America's Agatha Christie' by her publisher and was the recipient of the 1994 Agatha Award.

Early twentieth century brown half morocco over cloth boards, raised bands, gilt titles and extra gilt to spines, gilt top edges, marbled endpapers. All volumes illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and title page vignette. Discreet location label to front pastedown of each volume, very occasional spotting. Binding shows very well with just some very light rubbing to the extremities of some volumes, a couple of corners slightly bumped. An exquisite presentation of Edgeworth's works. Near fine.

London: Printed for R. Hunter [etc.], 1827. [Children's Literature] SECOND EDITION, corrected. Complete in four volumes. Octavo (18 x 11cm), pp.iii-xviii; 287 [1]; pp.[4] 342; pp.[4] 319 [1]; pp.[4] 350. Contemporary brown quarter morocco (possibly an early publisher's binding), with gilt titles to spines, and marbled paper over boards. Lacking the half-title to volume I. One early gathering to volume I quite proud, with heavy wear to exposed edges. A clean copy with light spotting throughout, and a little rippling and mustiness. Heavy wear to bindings, with head-caps pulled away and damage to tail-caps. Spines toned; joints starting in places; corners bumped. Good. The final instalment of a large body of work broadly titled 'Early Lessons' (beginning in 1801), first published in 1825.

London: Printed for J. Johnson and Co., 1814. [Didactic Novel] SECOND EDITION. Complete in four volumes. Octavo (18 x 11 x 11cm), pp.[8] 418 [2]; pp.[4] 431 [3]; pp.[4] 400 [2]; pp.[4] 388 [2]. Contemporary half marbled calf, with gilt titles to red labels and gilt ruling to spines. Marbled paper over boards. Light toning and spotting throughout. A few gatherings slightly proud, but generally crisp and clean. Quite heavy wear to boards, but spines remain pleasing, with some chipping to head-cap of volume III, and upper joint starting. Very good. One of Edgeworth's later novels, containing the earnest message that friendship between equals should be cultivated, and nepotism avoided.

The adventures of a young Barbadian field slave, who is taken on as a personal attendant by a naturalist and inventor in the 1830's.

London: Ward, Lock and Co., 1937. [Crime Fiction] FIRST EDITION, LATER ISSUE. Octavo (19 x 14cm), pp.280; [8]. Publisher's secondary binding of red cloth, black titles to spine, dust-jacket illustrated by Nina Miller Davidson. Neat ownership to flyleaf, light spotting and dustiness to edges. Jacket clipped and repriced at 4/6 net, toned to spine, with some edge wear. Very good. An elderly lady is stabbed to death at a Royal Wedding procession - a mystery featuring Mr. Percy Aloysius Huff, O.B.E. and the Hon. Betty Jetland. Ward Lock's practice with slow-selling titles of this period was to reissue the spare/unsold sheets in a cheaper binding (no gilt) and to clip and reduce the price on the jacket, which then had a series number added to the spine.

Tunbridge Wells: Lewis Hepworth and Morriss, 1893. First Edition. Octavo. Bound in russet cloth, with titles to front board, and decorative ruling to both front and rear boards. Decorative foliate endpapers. Binding shows minimal signs of wear. Internally clean, excepting some darkening to front and rear free endpapers from binder's glue. Edwards, sometime minister of Salem Chapel, Tunbridge Wells, was chiefly renowned for his book of hymns "Waters in the Wilderness". While his verse retains some choral overtones, for instance in "Our Complex Life" (which concludes "Beautiful, but spoiled through sinning"), others depict the scenery and history of the area, including the High Rocks, the Common, and a paean to Tunbridge Wells.

Publisher's binding of black textured 'Excelin' material over boards, with gilt titles to the spine, top edge tinted orange, in pictorial dust-wrapper. Together with the variant binding with a dark grey smooth-surfaced covering material with red-tinted top edge (faded). Contents clean. Jackets very lightly used, one with minor toning to spine; both price-clipped. A near fine pair. Publisher Jonathan Cape first published this tale of a corrupt eighteenth-century rake, mixed with nautical adventure and shipwreck in 1933. The book was re-issued in a New Library series in 1937 before disappearing from the public. Ian Fleming first wrote to Cape requesting a copy as early as 1949, long before his debut as the James Bond novelist.
