Inscription reads, 'To Mabel Silk/With best Wishes/from/Capt and Mrs J M Simpson/Xmas 1913'. Illustrated with a tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece of Mary Hazledine. The biography of English poet Mary (May) Rebie Hazledine (died age 19 in 1912). Some of her poems are included. She was the daughter of Reverend F J Hazledine, who was vicar of St Luke's Church, Ramsgate, Kent from 1905 to 1912. Rev Hazledine had one of the first motorcars in Ramsgate and would give a lift to anyone - this is acknowledged in the book, the car being refered to as the 'parish car'. He was called the 'fighting parson' because he would go to Central Road, Ramsgate on a Saturday night, intervening in the fights there!
