He provides an outline of the Sugar Industry in Queensland which at the time supplied 96% of the sugar in Australia. He also writes that the Industry in the later years has been bound up with politics, both Federal and State. A great book for anyone interested in this part of Australia's history. This book, edited by two Australian academic historians, explores the first sense of nationalism in the Australian, New Zealand, Canadian and white South African colonies in the late 19th century. It profiles the writings of Richard Jebb, a young imperialist and reformer, who first coined the phrase "colonial nationalism", to reflect that each of the new colonies were gradually developing their own culture as distinct from traditional British culture.
