This edition being what the publisher calls "The 4th edition (or first edition 4th state?) of this books (with "final" additions) has been printed by the firm of FEDEX numbered 150-200, signed by the author, February 2017". This is copy 187 and is numbered and signed by David Eberhardt on the title page.~~While the bibliographical information is a bit head-spinning, this is an engaging memoir by David Eberhardt recounting his involvement with the Brothers Berrigan in the protests against the Viet Nam war, and his subsequent time as an inmate at the Lewisburg Federal Prison. Containing Harry and Lucy, Part I; Harry and Lucy, Part II; The Little Dog Trusty; The Orange Man; The Cherry Orchard; and Frank, Part I. With fifteen handcolored plates, including the frontispiece. One plate has a bit of ancient pen drawing on it, and one has loss, barely affecting the image. An uncommon delight. Very Good binding.

Large 8vo; in the publisher's green cloth; 499 pages; with the beginnings of separation at the rear gutter; binding is shaken with the front gutter cracked to the webbing; there is shelfwear; there is a stain from ink near the bottom of the textblock and the spine has dark spots at the bottom.~~Writing in the Nevins bibliography, Bud Robertson calls this "one of the most noted of early brigade histories". Harwell concurs, claiming this work to be "Onr of the best and best known of the brigade histories". ~~This is not a pretty 1st edition copy of an important book. (Howes M-87; Nevins I, 125; ITC 119). Good binding.

Large 8vo.; in the publisher's green buckram binding with spine lettered in gilt and beveled edges; xxix, [1]. 263 pages including the Index; top edge gilt with other edges rough-cut; there is a small and neatly penned name on the front endpaper; with photogravure portrait frontispiece, protected with a tissue guard and a facsimile; the spine is just a bit darkened and there is a very faint musty odor.~~Two essays written in 1842 and 1844, in which Darwin's theory of natural selection is first considered; the 1842 essay was published earlier that year, but this is the first appearance in print of the 1844 essay, and thus the first appearance of the two essays together. Of note is that "[t]he sketch of 1844 bears, on the whole a striking resemblance to the origin of species ... even some of the sentences are identical." The first volume being the bibliographical and textual history and criticism by the editor, Joseph Haslewood. Second volume is the "fac-simile edition of the first impression of the Itinerary" (p. 142), published concurrently. The most famous of Brathwaite's works (his family name changed spellings like the weather), Barnabee's Journal was published under the pseudonym Corymbaeus, and it wasn't until this edition that the authorship was ascertained. "A sprightly record of English travel, in Latin and English doggerel verse... Southey pronounced the original the best piece of rhymed Latin in modern literature." (DNB II, 1142). Timpanaro has argued that this edition of Catullus is the most remarkable anticipation of Lachmann's method before the eighteenth century." One volume, printed in two parts, with separate title page, pagination, and register; woodcut engraved vignettes on the title pages.
