Scarce souvenir booklet published by Stultz's hometown of Williamsburg, PA, in commemoration of his historic trans-Atlantic flight June 17-18, 1928, with Lou Gordon and Amelia Earhart. Issued on the occasion of his "Home-coming Celebration" in Williamsburg on July 18, 1928. SIGNED ON FRONT COVER BY EARHART, GORDON, and STULTZ. 7.5 x 5.25" oblong cord-tied paperwraps with illustration of the soaring "Friendship" in red on front; 16 pages plus covers. The text covers Stultz's life and accomplishments in aviation and features black-and-white photographs including one of Amelia Earhart in flight gear on page 4. Established by siblings Max and Crystal Eastman in 1918 after The Masses was shutdown by government officials. Cover portrait of Abraham Lincoln by Boardman Robinson; woodcuts by J. J. Lankes, cartoons by Art Young, poetry by Hazel Hall, Nina Bull, Rose Henderson, Elizabeth Jane Coastsworth, Beulah Amidon, et al. Stapled paperwraps, approximately 8.5 x 10.75", 50pp plus covers. Few tiny edge tears, otherwise near fine.

Salem / Boston: S. E. Cassino, 1879 / 1880. First edition of this major botanical work. Two volumes, complete. Illustrated with a total of 81 full-color plates by J. H. Emerton and C. E. Faxon. Eaton performed his graduate studies under Asa Gray at Harvard but otherwise spent his entire career at Yale, both as a student and professor and his botanical collections are housed at Yale's Peabody Museum. Bound by "Scheffer, Binder, Harrisburg" in quarto three-quarter and green pebbled-cloth boards; spines each with five raised bands and lettered and ruled in gilt. Volume one (352 pp.) trimmed quarter-inch at fore edge and, inexplicably, a quarter inch at bottom of its first 160 pages which are also a little darkened and somewhat foxed. Scattered foxing mostly confined to margins of remaining pages (both volumes). Endpapers creased, bindings a bit scuffed; altogether about very good.

Boston: Little, Brown and Company, (1976). First edition. Two small spots on top page edges, otherwise fine in price-clipped dust jacket with a few closed edge tears and light soiling. An attractive copy of the author's first science fiction book.

Chapel Hill: Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, 1985. First edition of AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK. SIGNED by Edgerton on the title page.

London: John Camden Hotten, no-date [circa 1869]. An early edition, not the first, but with the 36 colored plates by Cruikshank. Freshly re-bound in marbled boards with red leather spine ruled in gold; black leather spine label lettered in gold; top edge gilt. "Life in London" was a monthly satiric journal written by Egan and published by Hotten with illustrations by Cruikshank. The first edition of "Life in London or, the Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn, esq., and his elegant friend, Corinthian Tom, accompanied by Bob Logic, the Oxonian, in their rambles and Sprees through the Metropolis" appeared on 15 July, 1821. British plays based on Egan's characters launched a "Tom & Jerry" craze here and, in name at least, the "Tom & Jerry" cartoon characters. Fine. THIRTY-SIX COLORED PLATES

Edinburgh: W. Sutherland, 1823. First edition. Includes the "Dramatis Personae," presumably from the Caledonian Theatre perfomance, and the play itself but not any music. Illustrated with twelve unattributed hand-colored plates, including the frontis. Cruikshank bibliographer Albert M. Cohn's copy with his bookplate on front pastedown, above which he's penciled, "of the greatest rarity/ have seen no other copy/ AMC." (OCLC locates a handful of copies in libraries). Gilt-stamped brown leather-backed brown cloth boards. Hinges starting, spine ends and tips worn, scattered foxing and staining but still relatively clean and tight and, altogether, about very good. Housed in marbled paper lined silk moire chemise and gilt-stamped leather-backed red cloth slipcase which are both fine.

Santa Barbara: Black Sparrow Press, 1983. First edition. One of 26 SIGNED, LETTERED copies handbound in boards. Fine in original acetate dustwrapper.

Laid in are three newspaper reviews of the London production, none are raves but the one in the "Observer" by Louis Macneice entitled "A Poet's Play" is kinder. It is from the issue of May 7th, 1950, the others from the "The Times" and the "Evening Standard." Also includes photo scene fom play starring Rex Harrison. Published for The British Council and the National Book League and issued by Longmans as a supplement to "British Book News." Stapled paperwraps, 62 pp. Covers aged and darkened, otherwise very good to near fine.

London: Oxford University Press, 1942. First edition. Eliot's Presidential address to the Classical Association, unbound and untrimmed. The two signatures (i.e., gatherings of pages) that make up the book are handsewn together without covers as originally issued for members of the Classical Association. Offered together with the regular issue of the book in stiff-card paperwraps with over-hanging pale blue covers pasted on (for comparison). Both volumes are very good; and the Classical Association issue is quite scarce, if not rare.
