This is a homemade binding with brown paper covering brown cardboard. A taped paper title label located in the upper left corner of the front cover. The paper is chipped on the spine. The lower corner section of the covers have been gnawed but there is no missing contents inside. The hinges are made of white linen tape. The title page is an original typed page showing offset with some of the typed letters. This is not a copied page. The first 8 pages were taken from an old ledger and the last 4 pages were taken from another ledger with smaller paper size. The 12 pages stitched together list handwritten names and dates of the marriages from the 1730's to late as 1799. There is a small oval bind stamp from the Long Island Historical Society located on the typed title page. No other markings. This same list appears on a web site by typing in the title.

The document reads "Major - I respectfully require of the Quartermaster's Department the necessary transportation receipts in bulk for the Subs Stores herewith invoiced, as required by Par 1088 Army Regulations. - Respectfully Your Obt Servt A B Eaton Capt ...sp?" The second document signed by Eaton on December 17th, 1847 is also addressed to Eastland and has the same exact content as the first letter (not a copy as the date is different and the writing has variation). Gilt title and decorations on the spine. All edges gilt. Cloth is torn at the front bottom corner. Other corners are gently bumped. Leather is lightly rubbed on the joints and spine, more evident on the lower spine. Interior contents are very sturdy and clean with light foxing to the colored maps. All text is in French. A good or better copy.
