Protestant response to Purgatory, auricular confession, indulgences, etc. Clean tight book, contemporary notes laid in.

Dodd, Mead, 1921 Bound in blue library binding with usual marks. This with frontis and 11 mounted color plates, all with tissue guards printed with descriptions of the plates. Covers are rubbed. Other than one closed tear in a tissue guard and a tiny corner tear to the last plate, contents are very good.

Hamburg: Cristoper Felginer, 1722 In contemporary leather, respined long ago in vellum. Former property of the British Museum sold as a duplicate in 1831. [12]+246+ [9].

Little Brown, 1928 Attractive copy bound in red cloth with gilt titles. Light foxing on a very few pages [a quick perusal finds some on three pages]. A history of the great fights from an earlier time.

Rough and Brown Press, 1925 138 page book plus two pages of ads, illustrated with line drawings. A tribute to Theodore Teddy Roosevelt. Bound in brown cloth with light rubbing, finger soiling the first few pages, front hinge starting.

1954: Random house Nice clean tight copy in price clipped jacket [8/54 at bottom flap], some rubbing at top front joint and the word "duplicate" stamped on the front cover.

Cincinnati: Curtis & Jennings, 1900 Bound in bright black cloth with bright gilt titles, 552 pp.This is the story of a Methodist itinerant minister who spent fifty-five years in the field.
toward the end are two chapters on Temperance, one with the movement in Cincinnati. Book is largely unread, front cover the slightest bit rubbed. Inside of front cover are two stamps for a hospital library.

Paris: Bureau De La Bibliotheque Catholique, 1825 Bound with brown leather spines, gilt decorations, red morrocco spine labels over grained leather boards, each with two title pages, 384 plus 332 pp. Ex-college library with shelf wear, one sig in volume 2 slightly proud.

London: J. Robinson, 1789 Beautiful book printed on lined paper in crisp clean condition. Beautiful hand colored plates in the text and line drawings in the rear. This is a from a college that sold off the contents of its rare book room. and has a book plate inside front cover and accession numbers, mostly in pencil, on verso fo the title page. Book is in modern brown cloth binding with no external marks.

Glasgow: Barnard & Farley, 1819 Bound in red leather with gilt decorations, borders and turn-ins, ix, 248. Attractive copy, stated "new edition". Binding matches the London edition, 6 3/8" tall.Light rubbing at extremities, an overall attractive copy.

New York: Dodd Mead A two volume set not dated but early. The spine of volume 1 is chipped at the head and nearly detached at the back gutter with volume 2 having small chips at the head of the spine. The contents are near fine.

Putnam, 1879 Bound in brown cloth with blind stamped decoration and borders on covers, gilt spine titles, 142 pp plus 1pp ads. Rear end papers and ads lightly foxed, name on tp., slight spine fade. An attractive copy.

Boston, 1828 A good copy with corners rounded, spine covered with balck cloth tape.

London, 1724 Printed for John Baxter, blank, tp, v-lv, errata, 1-534, 1-260, seven copper plates [one double page] .Book is disbound, missing part of introduction. First and last few pages chipped, first plate cropped. This book is over 16 1/2" tall and is a good candidate for rebinding.

Knightstown, IN: The Bookmark, 1978 Bound in dark blue cloth with gilt spine titles, this is a reprint of the 1941 WPA production, 421 pp.

Frankfort, Kentucky: Division of Archives and Records Management, 1979 Printed on one side only, 79 pp. plus 1 page ads.No writing, underlining, etc.

Dodd, Mead, 1902 Bound in elaborately blind stamped red cloth with gilt spine titles, 279 pp. This is a true first edition stating "first edition published October, 1902" and with the same date on the title page. This copy exceptionally well preserved with a touch of wear at the bottom tips and a minor scuff on the rear board. No marls, owner's name, etc.

Dodd Mead, 1902 stated first edition from the Elsie series, this with a damp stain on back cover and tender front hinge, otherwise contents nice and clean.

Charles Scribners Sons, 1913 An exceptional copy of this beautifully illustrated book with the rare front and back boards from the original slipcase. In my 35+ years of handling books. I have on occasion come across this book, but rarely if ever in this condition and had never seen an original slipcase before acquiring this beauty and its companion, listed separately.Pages are quite nice. Front cover has light foxing [not internally] and the lower corners are bumped. Slipcase cover is unevenly faded and worn at the edges.

Front cover is rubbed at the fore edge and chipped at the lower tips. Half title page with two finger smudges. Lower front joint is starting but still quite firm.Front cover of slipcase is edge worn and has a large chip on top, not affecting the paste down. A very good volume in a fait to good slipcase.
