Description:
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1927. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/near fine. 1st edition of the Nobel Laureate's 2nd novel. Fine (the yellow lettering is not flaked). 1st printing dustjacket (the 2nd printing cardplayers jacket is much rarer), some rubbing and a 3/8" tear else near fine. Cheaper than any copy close to this fine, and finer than any copy close to this cheap. Mosquitoes is Faulkner before he deserved applause, but it set him up to become what he became. In it he confines a mismatched group on the yacht of a matronly, literary lion hunter and feeds none of their appetites, so we learn that characters wrapped up in themselves make very small packages.

Description:
New York: Viking Press, 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. 1st edition, preceding the London edition.  Fine in a dustjacket with a few little chips to the spine tips, and short edgetears, else very good.  A scarce jacket when it is this fresh, white, and clean (most others are so brown that they look like they have been dusted with the ashes of a cremated gopher), and it's wrapped around an arcane and hermetic book, that was filmed in 1964 as The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao. One day, in the 1930s, The Circus of Dr. Lao appeared in Abalone Arizona and began to erect its shabby tents.  The town-folk were curious, expecting a series of traditional sideshows, but instead found that the lives of everyone drawn to the spectacle were permanently changed by the mythical made real, all of it staged by the philosophical, elusive, enigmatic, and ever-reanimating, Dr. Lao.  As the circus was exposed, it trapped Abalone's people in a dark, secret, revealing web of sensual, shattering, and macabre… Read More

Description:
LUCAS Films, 1983. Very good. Sensational, original, presentation, color photograph (20" X 16") of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, in her gold bikini slave costume from Star Wars VI (Return of the Jedi). Boldly inscribed, in black ink, to (the infamously nefarious) Dr. Arnold Klein, "For my own crazy. Who loves you darling [?] Guess again. Princess Leia. Opiates for sure." With the original hologram sticker ("Officially Licensed Star Wars Photograph") in the lower left-hand corner. Several lines of emulsion flaking, else very good. Framed. Carrie Fisher was a great lady from many points of view, but anyone who knew her, or knows about her, understands the magnitude of this association, and the significance of her inscription's reference to opiates. One might rank a different, imaginary association copy higher, but this one is as great as any, and it's not imaginary, it's for sale. Her Princess Leia is one of the worldwide, magnetic babe fantasies. And speaking of babes, when we do employment… Read More

Description:
Berlin: Springer, 1922. First Edition. Wrappers. Near fine. 2 vols. 1st editions (in German), the first appearance of 2 distinct papers, in 2 separate periodical issues, September 13 and November 17. Both are complete in original wrappers. Near fine (small pencil name on the Nov. cover). Seems to be surprisingly rare. RBH lists no auction sales of Friedmann's article title and date since 1975, and only one copy of it is listed by OCLC, but copies of the bound annual, Zeitschrift für Physik, are regularly available and should not, in this case, be considered, in any way, equivalent to our set in publisher's wrappers. 1. Friedmann's pioneering paper, the first to seriously apply general relativity to cosmology without the stabilizing cosmological constant, theorizing and mathematically formularizing, an expanding universe, dragging cosmology into a branch of physics. In Zeitschrift für Physik, Band 10, He 16, September 13, 1922, pages 377-386, "Here we have, for the first time, the idea of an… Read More
