A lovely album of Southern Maine coastal photos, including images arranged in three sections: the first undated, the second 1907, the third 1908. The first section commences with the Deering House "Deerwander", moves through Kennebunkport, Webhannet (Wells), York Beach, Nubble Island Light, Piscataqua River, and ends at Bauneg Beg Pond in N. Berwick. An appealing cabinet card photograph of a group of eighteen men and boys, posing for Fassett & Bassett photographers on the steps of a storefront in Lewiston Maine. Two boys are holding violins, most are holding their hats. An interesting and handsome image. CONDITION: Very good, light wear, remnant of a circular .75" sticker on verso.

A scarce photograph of Cornelia Adele Fassett's noted painting of the meeting of the Electoral Commission of 1877, accompanied by a broadside key. The 1877 Electoral Commission was a temporary body created by Congress to resolve the disputed 1876 presidential election between Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. Tilden won 184 electoral votes of the 185 required to win, while Hayes won 165. However, twenty electoral votes from four states-three of which were the southern states of Florida, South Carolina, and Louisiana-were unresolved. A scarce and very fine engraved view of Harvard, based on a painting by early American view and landscape painter Alvin Fisher. This evocative 1820s engraving depicts the campus from the south, showing the six halls that constituted the campus at the time: Massachusetts Hall, Harvard Hall, Stoughton Hall, Holworthy Hall, and University Hall, each of which is identified in print just below the image. The scene is animated by students on the grounds, one throwing something to another from an open window on the second floor of Massachusetts Hall, others horsing about under a tree, etc., capturing something of the madcap youthful energy of college life.
